Sci Fi - didn't care for

We ate at Sci Fi last Thursday. My parents and I loved the atmosphere but it was our least favorite meal of the week. I had the bbq chicken sandwich which was incredibly dry and the roll was stale. My parents had the penne and thought it was bland. The milkshake and onion rings were good though.

We just weren't impressed with the meal. We thought we should have went with the primetime cafe instead.

IMO, of course.

We ate at Sci-Fi for dinner and were soooo disappointed. I had the so-called steak dinner ... boy that was one yucky tasting tough piece of meat, which came with undercooked potatoes and the most awful bleu cheese vinagrette dressing on a salad. The kids said their ribs were just "okay", and DH did not care for whatever entree he had the misfortune of getting. The hot fudge sundae almost lacked the hot fudge. We used (wasted) one dining plan credit for this meal, and when I thought we could have used that credit at Le Cellier or Kona Cafe I wanted to cry.

We have only done burgers and shakes though. We enjoyed them and love the themeing. :goodvibes

I will admit that we go strictly for the atmosphere and not the food. We go late in the afternoon and get an appetizer and dessert to share! But I love those corny movies- makes me miss Mystery Science Theatre....

I have even had bad burgers there (bun so dry it falls apart, cardboard burger). But I consider it worth a go for everyone once, especially those who like old monster movies, just for the experience.

Sorry you were disappointed. :guilty:

Another MST fan! That's exactly what both DS and DH said (separate trips-they weren't together)

Sorry for your unpleasant meal. Sci Fi tends to be a hit-or-miss kind of place. We haven't been since 2001, so my DD wants to hit it when we're at WDW this summer. I plan to stick with simple fare--burgers, onion rings and shakes have all received mostly good reviews.
Ah well--another restaurant you can cross off your list! :sunny:

We love Sci Fi, but we go mostly for the theming. We only go for lunch, and we stick to the basics - burgers, fries, onion rings, shakes. We go every trip, and we've never had bad food there.

The last time we ate at the Sci-Fi "Restaurant" also marks the final time I will ever eat there. Went there with my wife, one of my sons and his wife, and their four sons. We waited for quite a long time after our orders were taken by a waiter who seemed a bit out of touch with reality. When our food finally came, everyone was served except my daughter-in-law and myself. It took us a while to get the waiter back to our "car," and when we explained that we didn't have anything to eat and we were hungry, he acted confused and said he would "check on it."

After about 15 minutes more, he returned with cold burgers and fries, and everyone else in our party, who finished eating quite a while earlier, had to wait while we attempted to eat the cold, dry burgers and limp fries.

This marked the ONLY time in my many experiences at WDW that I did NOT tip the waiter. He should have tipped me, I felt. What a looser.

Did I mention that this would be my final attempt to eat at this so called "restaurant?" What a mess.

Did not enjoy, even a little bit.

It's really a shame that they don't improve the food because the theming is incredible!

We have gone for lunch and dinner. Dinner gets a bad rap but DHs shrimp pasta was REALLY good that night and flavorful. I had the fried catfish and it was dry dry dry with no seasoning at all. But we still enjoyed our visit because the place is just cool and the service was great.

(I think 50s PT food is better btw)

We have eaten at Sci-Fi every year and most of the time at least twice a trip. NEVER have we had a bad meal.

To us, Sci-Fi is a hamburger / cheeseburger type of resturant. We have never tried anything else. Except DW like the ruben.

Our old adage is this...if you want a steak dinner...go to a steak resturant. If you want a fish dinner, go to a fish restaurant.

If you want an italian meal..go to an italian restaurant...not a chinese resturaunt.

Love it! But we always order hamburgers and hot dogs. Wouldn't think of ordering a steak there.

Making a point to go back this year again! :cool1:

i realy did not care si fi because it did not tast good because i tjust didint.i realy dont now why. can any won tell me why si fi seems boring.

Even after reading all of the bad reviews for sci-fi, we still went since my 9 year old really wanted to eat here. It had to be the absolute worst service and food I have ever had at WDW. It makes the CS restaurants look like 5 star restaurants :rotfl2: It was really that bad!!!!

We have an ADR there for the first week in June (can't remember the exact date). I've read good and very bad on Sci-Fi, but it's one MGM restaurant we've always wanted to visit but haven't. I think we'll stick to the burgers and fries/onion rings route per many suggestions. It is a shame that there are sooo many negative posts about this place. But we'll give it a try. It will be so hot there then that just being in a cool spot will be worth it.

Hi!
Went to Sci-Fi for drinks and appetizers and then another time just for dessert. Never had any lunch or dinner there. But really enjoyed it. Those movies bring back memories. I'm taking my 3 1/2DGD and DD in August. We're going at 2:30 for dessert and it should be a nice break on a hot afternoon.

DD and I ate there in October of last year. We loved it  . The themeing is great. We were on the Dining Plan. DD had a Bacon CB with Onion Rings and I had the ribs. It was not the best ribs I had ever eaten, but they were definately edible. THey were not horrible. We had milkshakes also. We love this restaurant and we'll be back for lunch on May 29th with the rest of the family.

See ya at the Sci Fi!

Sadly that sums up my opinion too.
The atmosphere was great - worth visiting once for that alone. Our server was fine, but I recall that the food was generally dry and tasteless (we didn't try eating the server I hasten to add! :lmao: )
This could be a great restaurant if Disney put a bit more effort into the food. Ok, I realise haute cuisine doesn't go with the theming, but that doesn't justify pricey, sub-standard fast food. :furious:

We had burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes and it was great! It was the best meal of our trip. We had good service that day, too.
