I've been to Sci-Fi a couple of times, but it's definitely been a while. We will be there with 3 adults (one is in her 60s and has never been to WDW) and two kids. Can you share insight on the experience (is it too dark/loud to hold conversation, are kids frightened-ages 7 and 8-by anything, is it, in your opinion, a good place to take a first-timer, etc).

Thanks!

My DD has eaten there at age 5 and 7, she wasn't worried by the dim lighting or film clips. Hubby and I love it here but DD now 10 has announced its boring now but she'll still have to sit through it, lol, just like I will in the Stitch breakfast.:thumbsup2

Went to Sci-Fi last years DD8 and DS3 loved the atmosphere and the milkshakes, they could have cared less about the movies. The only problem with having a conversation is that the "car" you sit in is divided into 3 rows of two seats. You can really only converse with the person sitting next to you. Other than that I think it is one of the best themed places to take a first timer.

Went last year for my first time with my ds who was 7. This trip he went from fearless to scared of everything! All the rides, shows, everything! But he really loved Sci-Fi for the atmosphere and the glow-thingie drink (I think it was Buzz?) Like other posters mentioned, I don't think he paid much attention to the screen as he was too busy playing with his drink and looking around at the other cars/people. I say go for it!

Sci-Fi is my 2 boys fave. restaurant! The food is ok but the theming and atmosphere are awesome. It's really fun. The scare factor would depend on how your kids are if they are afraid of Godzilla type monsters you may have a little issue but other than that I'd say you just have to try it. So many people including myself ask questions on the boards but the only way to get a true answer is to experience it yourself. It's like restaurant reviews one person can say it's awful and someone else will say the complete opposite. Just TRY it. Have a magical time.

Are the only seating options the cars? We will have 5 people and it will be awkward to have one person sit alone.

I've been there many times and seen people of all ages having a GREAT time! I totally recommend it!

There are tables in the back of the restaurant. Don't know the size of them...but they are available.

Sci-Fi is a fun experience to us and we are in our 50s. The 60 year old will probably really like it. The movies are not really scary, a little "corny" sometimes, but fun.
We ALWAYS get the burgers and shakes. It is dark in there and a pen-light would be great to see the menu better IMO.
I would want to sit in the cars, that will be part of the fun for the kids.

I think your kids will love it! I went with 5, 2 adults 3 teenagers, sat at a bigger car, 3 n 2 it worked out good
