Has anyone ever used them? What did you think? My husband and I both work full time and have 2 kids and are trying to think of ways to make mealtime more convenient. It seems like we are always picking up things here and there at the grocery store along with our regular trips and it really adds up. I thought maybe a food service like Schwans would be easy and helpful.

Ive used Schwans before and really like them...

They are definitely convenient.. but I will admit they are a little pricey..

Its been a little while since I did order and actually DS14 mentioned yesterday we should call them..

Now I dont just buy anything from them... I pick and choose because some things arent a bad deal and others are just too high and I can do better at the grocery store.. I think the ice cream is especially high..

Once you start, they will come by on a specified day of the week. I found that I bought some things I probably wouldn't have normally so I spent more. Not everything is a deal either. I moved to a new community 5 years ago and I haven't seen a truck here and I'm only 3 miles from my previous neighborhood. Come to think of it I haven't seen a truck in a long time anywhere in the area, on my way to work or just out running errands, so I'm not sure what is up with that.

I buy from then bi-weekly and it's very convenient, plus my kids like the ice cream!

They are a bit pricey, but then again you don't have to pay for the gas to drive to the store. The food is really high quality, almost resturant quality and very good.My parents love there steaks and there chicken strips are the best. Like the other person stated some things have a better value. There drivers are super nice and very professional. They will even donate a freezer and drop off at your work if they can get enough orders which makes them that much more covenient.

When we figured out the price per pound, Schwann's was much more that the grocery store. For us, it wasn't a good deal. You may want to compare their prices with your local store's. Then you can decide if the convenience is worth the difference for your family.

I used them before and sometimes they will park and sell out of their truck. They are a little expensive but the food is good and the ice cream is the best. The last flavor I had was a watermelon sherbet which was awesome.

we have a delivery guy that lives in the neighborhood! i love their pretzals with sweet cream cheese in the center and the fried wontons with cream cream. the ice cream is really good. I think their meats have very high prices.

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law used to buy from them. They spent way more than they could afford. It seemed like the driver was at their houses all the time. Dh thinks the driver knew that they were pushovers.

We kept telling them they either needed to scale back or stop buying all together. They finally listened. My MIL no longer buys, and my SIL only buys a small amount.

Their food is excellent though. :thumbsup2

Like others have said, the cost is higher. But I found that the quality is much better too!! Thanks for the reminder, our driver will be here Monday!

Oh, and because I am a licensed daycare and registered that way, if I spend over a certain amount I get 1 free item. I like that deal!

I agree that their products are not a bargain although sometimes they have decent sales/promotions. Our driver is wonderful and has NEVER pressured us to buy anything. Sometimes I feel bad if he stops and all I buy is a carton of ice cream (the BEST!) but he just thanks me for the purchase very graciously!

If the kids or the DH are home when he stops, they do a lot of impulse buying but our bill has never been more than about $35 so they get a couple of items and it's cheaper than eating a dinner out!

I used to buy from the Schwans man but they are not in my neighborhood anymore. I think that they had a tough time keeping drivers because they work on commission. I liked their products but mainly bought the novelties adn the vegetables. The ice cream was pricey so I generally purchased it on sale at eh grocery unless there was a seasonal variety I liked. Their frozen pies were delicious and worth every penny as well. I wish they still came down my street.

They are very pricey. I liked to get the meals, but unfortunately they were barely big enough to feed 3 of us. I also ordered from Market Day and don't have a seperate freezer, so the last time the driver came, he had a real attitude and said I hadn't ordered anything for the last 2 times he came and I was wasting his time...I told him to stop coming then!

Very good but echo the very pricey.

I've used them in the past. We loved some of their stuff -- ice cream, meatballs, frozen soft pretzels.... They are great for quick frozen meals. I kind of miss having them in the freezer.

Lets see if this works....

You can look at the prices and items for your area. You can order on-line and avoid impulse buying at the door. I used to get e-mails with sales and promotions.

The food and ice cream are great!!!! If only they could keep a driver on my route we would go weeks or months and not see them. I didn't know they worked on commission but they were working from 8 a.m. and at my house at 7 p.m. or later and their distribution center was 2 hours from my so I wasn't suprised they couldn't keep any help.

We have been Schwan’s customers for about 10 years now. My DH and I both work outside the home and we have 2 kids.

I too need quick and easy meals for those busy week nights. I compare the cost of their products to dining out or grabbing take-out. We typically spend $20ish for take out or up towards $60 for a dinner out.

For me, comparing a Schwan’s meal vs. a $60 meal is a no-brainer and we are very big on sitting down to dinner as a family every night.

I actually do not like their ice cream. (We live in Texas and there is nothing better than Blue Bell!)

I do use their website to research nutrition and cost per serving. I honestly stay away from their high priced meats, though they are very high quality.

I do buy in bulk at Sam’s for my meats and then break the packages in to smaller portions.

I would encourage your to try it out. We have had several divers over the years and the have all be great guys…and they do work on commission.

Thanks for all the input. My thought was that if we could order online and use their dinners, we would not do as much impulse buying of snacks and have actual meals. I think we will give it a try.

Our Schwann's guy comes every other Tuesday. I've tried multiple things, but really only have a few stand bys. We love their frozen Alfredo Sauce and thier Choc. PB ice cream. I also love their frozen fish fillets. I've never had a bad tasting fillet. Occassionaly, I'll try different things, but it really is expensive.

They aren't budget, but they are good.
