I agree with you Sammie.

Mind you I think it probably has something to do with the child too. Motivation may have something to do with it.
Sadly we do have an education system that is going to the dogs close behind the NHS Service. It doesn't suprise me that we can now boast in the UK that one in five chidren can't read at the age of 11. Begs a lot of questions doen't it?
I have to say thay my eldest boys have done alright in spite of the education system in this country but not without a lot of input from us. We are glad to have the opportunity of trying an alternative with our youngest.
Some schools do seem to be adopting the American way now in that they celebrate Graduation. My DS always wished that he could have a Graduation, it may have motivated him to do better in school. It was introduced about 2 years after he left. He thought it was great to have a "Disney Graduation" when he had completed his year at WDW as a Cast Member

As far as Welsh in schools...

They make you carry on 'taking' right through to the end. I don't know about England and Scotland, but in Wales, we are forced to continue with Welsh, PE/Games and RE until we finish our GCSE's - whether we're doing GCSE's in those subjects or not.

Uni is so much better... lovely long holidays! A few of my lecturers are American (Dr. Kasia Szpakowska and Dr. Ellen Morris).

Just as a "FYI", i might as well add the Canadian school system is basically a copy of the US with very few differences (tests and stuff are different) but the overall K-12 system is very similar.
