I've been reading about snacks in Epcot. I would love to know what schoolbread is. I've read many good things about it, but no good description. Is it sweet, like a pastry, or just bread? Would you recommend it? Also, does anyone have any pictures of it?

No, I wouldn't recommend it LOL! I didn't see the big deal at ALL. It's just a huge chunk of bread (not sweet or anything) with a wee bit of pudding in the middle of it, it sorta oozes out the top through a hole, and they sprinkle coconut on the top. That's it.

When we stopped at the bakery in Norway, there were tons of great looking pastries there but I was committed to try the schoolbread from the reviews on here, so my mom and I split it and we were disappointed we hadn't gotten something better.

I didn't take pics of it for some reason! Sorry!

hmmm.....thanks for the review. I may not try it after all. I saw some pictures of the desserts in France though and they look YUMMY!!!! Perhaps, I'll get something from there instead. :cool1:

I was intriegued by 'Schoolbread' too after reading many posts so I gave it a try when I was there in May.

The above poster pretty much described it. It looks like a very large custard filled doughnut with frosting on top. The 'bread' part is really more 'bread' texture than you would think- especially since it looks like a doughnut. I expected the 'bread' part to be more soft and squishy but it was truely 'bread' like.

The custard is vanilla and the frosting had a hint of the spice cardamom which is often used in many Scandinavian recipies. It is not a strong spice but one that I am particulary sensitive too and don't care for it much.

So, while I'm glad I tried it, Schoolbread isn't for me. I'd certainly opt for a pastery from France over Schoolbread anyday but it is always fun to try something new!

I didn't try the schoolbread but I did try the Kringla (sweet pretzel). Now those are good!

I have some Norway bakery pics up on the food pic thread, page 48 post 713. It's not the greatest pictures cause the cases had so much condensation on them, but you can see some of it.

Thanks for the pics oogieboogie!!!! The pastries look yummy. By the way, I'm glad you took so many pictures of the food. It helps me decide what I will eat when I'm there :) It's like actually being there. I can smell the food right now......yum. :earseek:
