At the risk of highjacking this post onto another subject, IF my district ever hit the lottery and actually had any extra money, I would be seriously upset if they spent it on pencils and kleenex instead of security (we have had weapons, violence both random and related to gang activity and thousands of dollars worth of vandalism in my school). Here is reality: there are MANY things that have a bigger priority than pencils and kleenex (like hiring special education staff and aides, standardized testing, fuel, utilities, health care costs, not to mention the home tutors that need to be hired full time every time a student gets expelled, need for increased nurses and social workers, computers... the list goes on and on). I honestly think if the average poster understood the number of things that actually needed to be paid for they would understand that pencils, kleeenex and wipes are at the very bottom of the average school district's list. Most people would be absolutely shocked at the level of need that many students have.
