An anyone remember when schools supply deals begin over the Summer? They sent home the list at the end of the year and I am hoping to score some bargains.

Thanks!

Target usually starts first week in August, as does Staples. I always make sure I pick up plenty for all the items that run out by Jan. One year I had to pay $5 for a pack of crayola markers in Jan and I swore never again. Better to have to many school supplies than not enough!

I think it varies greatly based on when kids go back to school. Here, they go back July 31, so we'll definitely have supply sales before August.

Staples first chain wide circular is 6/28 and then certain weeks have circulars for select markets and then some weeks are chain wide.

We go back during the first week of August so hopefully I can find some prior to that.

You will definitely be able to find some prior at Staples. The sales start way before the 1st week of Aug (I work for them so I know when the sales start)

School starts up here the day after Labor Day (we aren't even out yet - my kids still have two weeks) and last year the school supply sales started the first week in August. We take those last four weeks and go to Office Max, Office Depot, and Target every Sunday, because I've got three in school - between my three kids I have to send in SIXTY glue sticks, so you can imagine all the other stuff I have to buy!

60 glue sticks, that's crazy!

we go back after Labor Day and don't get the lists until after school starts so I miss all the sales. I can buy some things I know they'll need but the list is very specific now that they are in HS.

Breathe and enjoy summer!

Exactly. Summer is too short as is. When you get to be my age, winter is nine months long, and spring, summer and fall are each a month long. The one thing I hate about summer...it's only six more months until it's winter again.

Anyway...what was the question again? Oh yeah, school supplies. :rotfl2:

Around here (Northern KY), the kids go back to school around August 15. I think the sales begin around the first or second week of July. HTH.

Back to school sales start right after 4th of July. It's either going to be that weekend or the next. Staples and Office Max starts before Walmart, Target, etc.

Trust me there will be plenty of threads on back to school sales when they start.
You won't miss a beat. Just relax until then.

Thanks for all the replies. I am not wanting to shorten Summer; I am loving it! We have some upcoming medical situations in our family and some out of town family visiting plus all the normal stuff that will make for a stressful Summer. I was just trying to make a checklist of when to start doing all of the things that have to be done.

I shop DiscountSchoolSupply.com They have great prices. Sometimes I go in with a couple of Moms and buy in bulk and we split it.

I refuse to buy more than 4 glue sticks per kid. They aren't gluing their way thru school. The teachers ask for outrageous quantities so they have enough to cover all of the kids who bring no supplies. I keep my supplies at home and restock the supply boxes at the beginning of each quarter. Don't feel obligated to be the supplier for the class. Of course, the choice is yours and you may not mind at all. :)

Unfair statement! :sad2: I am a school teacher and by no means expect parents to provide supplies for others! Those supplies usually come out of my pocket!!!

I'm sorry, but 4 glue stick for an entire year is not enough. I homeschool, rarely use glue and we go through at least one a month. I agree the amounts they ask for are usually overkill, but I wouldn't do less than 10. (One a month.)

OP, sales start the weekend of the 4th. That's the first week you will see smokin hot deals.

I'm in NKY too!

I am in NKY too! My DD is a teacher and has been picking up supplies at The Christmas Tree Store. There have been a couple of times in the last month that she has gotten a good deal.

They set up a temporary kiosk thing in our local grocery store and HEB with printouts of supply lists for each school in our area - usually in July. (Our schools go back 3rd week of August). The sales here typically coincide with the kiosk showing up.

Our schools actually sell "supply kits" at the schools at the end of the year for the next year, but I've found that they are WAY overpriced. I can find what we need for less than 1/2 of what they sell the kits for. I just have to do my shopping at LEAST 3 weeks prior to school starting or everything is GONE. Seriously, you can't find notebook paper, folders with brads, or composition notebooks come August!
