School supplies Thread

Our school (private) is very specific about item size and brand and that is what you must get. I am very budget minded and last year the request was for 8 count crayola crayons (6packs) but the 24 packs were .10 at walmart. I bought the 24 packs and took out the 8 colors that were in the the 8pack and put them in a snack ziploc bag. The 8 count were like 1.50 each. I saved all the other colors in a big bag at home for coloring and crafts. I asked the first of school if this was acceptable and the teacher told me that it was one of the best ideas she had seen. The colors all go into a basket for each color-red,blue etc..... and she throws away or recylces the boxes.

Tinkercat-What Elementary will your child be at? Mine is at Central and they did not say anything about any opening and they already sent out the information of what teacher and am or pm. This is our first child going into kindergarten so everything is new to us. My husband and me did not go to RP schools so we don't know any of the teachers.

The sneak peak email I got didn't have any new deals - all printer/office stuff, no back to school stuff in it. I'm hoping they will have some sort of continuation of the $.01-.05 stuff weekly

From what I remember from last summer, Staples had sporadic specials.

Target and Walmart had the most consistent sales, and tended not to run out of the sale items. Their sales are also week-long, not 4 day sales.

New Staple Deals

Has everyone seen the new Staples deals? I just looked and for next week you can get 150 sheets filler paper for 15 cents, 2 pair scissors 33 cents, clear plastic see through pocket folders 20 cents each, and a 4 pack of glue sticks for 50 cents. Looks like its another trip to Staples.

Hallie will be at Reeths Puffer Elementary (Its near the Intermediate building and High School, back behind Meijers). The Reeths Puffer website had a job posting for a Kindergarten teacher at RP Elementary not too long ago. I'm guessing that since they don't know who the teachers will be for sure at my DD's school, that is why I haven't heard anything about who her teacher is. I didn't go to RP schools either, but I'm hoping we'll like it.

Central is on Giles, right?

Try 160 But my kids like to write/draw notes to each other so I plan on letting them use them for scrap. I did "assign" them both a notebook the other day when I bought them - they picked 2 colors - 1 for fun and the other one I told them they had to write 1 page a day - a sentence, a picture, whatever they wanted but it had to have 3 different words on the page.

Just a heads up!

Make sure to check your own area flyer before going!!! Last year I got an email from them with deals and it was a mess up. Back to school sales vary by area as to what dates the sales are in effect. The sales I was emailed were not for my area until the next week. The email I got for next week DID NOT show ANY penny or under $1 sales for that matter. It was all computer, office equipment stuff - photo copiers, printers, etc. Because I printed out the email my store reluctantly honored the prices (last year) but I just wanted to point out that everyone needs to check the local flyer before assuming that the sales are effective in their stores.

Thanks for pointing this out. I just checked out next week's "weekly ad" online and there aren't school supplies on sale listed for my area.

Oh no! We only have the office supplies listed as well. Where are the deals for Staples next week? I am so bummed. I did buy my son's backpack at ToysRus.com yesterday and got a free lunchpale with it. I refuse to shop at Walmart, so I am now counting on Staples and Target to get school supplies.

Speaking of school supplies, I've seen Camp Rock pink & black backpacks with all the characters on the front online for like $30. Where are these in stores (cheaper)? Toys R Us isn't carrying them and Target just has the graffiti ones. Thanks!

When you say, "this week", do you mean this week that ends tomorrow or this coming week starting Sunday?

ETA: Never mind. I just pulled up their ad on their site. This sale starts Sunday the 13th. Whew! I won't have to run to the store today.

Wow i wished they had those great sales here in Alberta we are lucky if we spend under $40 dollars for just the supplies , not back pack or lunch kit or shoes and that seems crazy . I hope i can find some good deals as i have 3 going in grade schoolthis year
