School Starts

Our kids start back on August 6th. This year their last day was May 25th. We're in Jackson County in NE Georgia.

This is my schedule as well. I live in south Louisiana. Public & private school teachers are back at school by August 6th. Students begin on August 7th. My preschooler begins on August 9th. School this year will end on May 22nd I believe.

August 20 for us in SE Ohio, but that's a small private school. Our last day is set for May 23. Public schools start August 27.

Here in ma we go back Sept 5 (the day after we get back from disney) my kids got out June 20th.

My sons starts Kindergarten on August 13 and gets out May 23. We are in Atlanta, GA.

In the UK we have 13 weeks of 'school holidays', some counties have fixed the school year so the terms and holidays are even and stay the same from year to year (so much easier to plan holidays!). Some however, like Dorset, are not fixed and change depending on where Easter falls. For 07-08 Autumn Term is 15 weeks long and we break up on 21st December! Spring is relatively short (9.5 weeks) and Summer LONG again (15 wks). As a Mum and teacher...thank goodness for school holidays!!:cheer2:

How many weeks holiday do you get in the US? Does it change from state to state?
What happens if you take children out of school in the US? We now have to 'unauthorise' any absences in any month apart from June/July...this is really difficult for our local population as we live in a tourist hot-spot and many parents can only take holidays 'out of season'...plus the cost!! (I'm not even going to go there!! I always have to pay full-wack!!):teacher:

Here in the US most states have approximately 180 school days. It truly varies not only from state to state but also within different school districts. This seemed to happen mainly when many children needed to be on the farms to help the harvest. It also depends upon our climate. Most of the northeastern seaboard start school around Labor Day which is always the first Monday of Sept. Some go back right before Labor Day while others right after. However, in the South and Midwest they go back in July and August. Private schools do their own thing. They try to follow the local school district as closely as possible but it depends if they are a religious private or nonsecular.

Our school days are generally 6 hours give or take a 1/2 hour. High schools and Kindergarten tend to be the exceptions. It's interesting to see how it varies not only in the US but elsewhere.

School start July 31st here in middle tennessee. We get 2 week breaks in October,December, and March.School usually ends the last week in may.

Always start the day after Labor Day here and end about the 2nd Friday of June. We are a suburb of Pittsburgh PA.

August 8 here, and it can't come soon enough.
Out sometime around Memorial Day, depending on snow.

Our school starts back on August 9. It seems like summer break keeps getting shorter and shorter! I'm not ready for the kids to go back, I love summer break.

Thank goodness for fall break though, we are headed to WDW!! :cool1:
