My son's last football game (modified) is this Monday. This season has been just an amazing expierence for him. His coaches have also been really great. He played 5 yrs in little loop, and the coaches there were all less than... well I'm sure you understand.
He has always loved the sport, but they worked so much w/ him. They were really great, and my son really likes all 3 coaches. He's actually getting a little depressed it's just about over for this year.
Anyhow, I'd really like to get them each a thank you type card- well something along the line's of just saying thank you for all the hardwork and dedication you put into the team... or something like that. Then maybe put a small gift card for like Tim Horton's (right by the school and they all teach there) in it. I'm not exactly loaded right now, so I can't really do much more.
Anyhow, I'm just wondering if this is appropriate or tacky??? When he played little loop we always donated w/ other parents for a gift at the end of the season (that was all volunteer). Now, I believe the school coaches, even for modified, are paid. Probably not much though, and they put a lot of time in w/ these kids. My husband and I would just like to let them know they were appreciated.

I'm sure they would really appreciate it even if it isnt a lot of money. I coach swimming for a living and I always appreciate gestures such as that. I even love just getting hand written cards from the kids without a gift....but the gift cards are definitely nice too! :goodvibes

You could write a letter to the athletic director with CCs to the principal and the coaches. It would cost you nothing and might be very helpful for them to have it in their personnel files.

I don't know about your school rules, but our school rules do NOT allow coaches to accept monetary gifts...this is help "parents" give coaches things to make sure their kids are taken care off!

Now, of course, in our school they get away with this buy the coach MLB tickets, local university tickets ect...so then they put a limit of 75.00 monetary worth...whatever!

Personally, I think a letter to the AD would be the best! And only after the season is over!

They are coaches, and they coach for the sake of being able to help someone do the best they can. No matter how much money you spend on them, it won't really matter. They would probably appreciate something showing them that your son loved them so much, and how great of a coach they are.

My husband helps coach several of the kids' teams. He's always touched to receive a gift card or thank you note.
