Has anyone every traveled about this time and can tell me if the ship was packed with kids... ?

The kids in Florida go back mid August.

and there were quite a few kids on board. The schools up north start the wednesday after labor day - my kids missed 3 days but it worked out great anyway. We loved the weather so much we are going again this year on the 8/31 Magic.

We went on the 9/1/01 Magic last year and I didn't think there were TOO many kids on board. I didn't notice a problem at least. Then again, I've never had a problem with the amount of kids on any of the three Disney Cruises that I've been on.

We thought really hard about booking that 8/31 Magic Cruise, but we decided the girls needed to be in School the first week (they start the Wednesday after Labor Day) . We noticed a substantial savings from the 8/24 week to the 8/31 week. Our girls are in middle and high school, and we didn't want the teachers copping an attitude with them the first of school. I am thinking that most of the schools do start in August, (thus the lower prices in August than in July) , but I know some systems do begin right after labor day.

the teacher did not have a problem with dakota missing school, and actually thought that he would learn more on the cruise then he would at school. In Iowa kids go back towards the end of August.

I guess I should've said the reason I was asking...

We are taking our 2 year old on this cruise and were concerned about how crowded the pools would be with older kids...My ds loves the ppol and I wanted to see if it would be feasible to even spend time there..

In an earlier post someone came back and said that there were older kids jumping in and out of the mickey ears sections over running all the little ones...

Thanks again to everyone for your replies...
Keep them coming..

Although it seems most school systems resume classes around mid-to-late August, some school systems don't resume classes until after Labor Day. In some cases this is mandated by law.

I am a teacher in Virginia. It is state law that school begins for public school children in Virginia the Tuesday after lLabor day. This is later than many of my friends around the country. I think that there should be less children for your 2 year old to contend with in the pools.

As a teacher, I know it is important for kids to be in school, especially jr. high and high school. Travel can be very educational, but IMHO I think students should not miss the first weeks of school because it starts the students behind from the beginning. If I was going to take my own kids out of school to cruise, I would maybe try to go in October. The weather is always beautiful in the Caribean (except for Hurricanes), and the student is established in his/her classes by then.

I had written that some of the older kids were very rough, and horse playing in the Mickey pool. We were on the Magic last year at the end of August. My boys were 3 1/2 and 17 months at the time. I had baby DS in Mickey's ears, which are 8 inches deep. Both loved the water but the older kids were running and jumping in and out of Mickey's face into the ears. The CM did NOTHING. These kids were about 12 YEARS OLD. I mean c'mon, there were certainly plenty of other plaes for them, including the family pool. We did enjoy cruising as a family vacation and are looking into doing it again. We are looking at the week of 8/31, same as you. THis should be a better time, as the kids are in school and that should mean less older kids on board. We are not doing the Magic again but are looking into the Carnival Pride. It is a brand new ship that is getting rave reviews. Carnival takes 2 yr olds into their Camp Carnival, unlike Disney where the kids have to be 3. We don't plan on using it that often but the boys can play together there.

This is opposite of what Dakota's teacher said. She indicated to me that the first couple of weeks are spent reviewing and getting back in the swing of things, but of course that is just a different opinion...

In So. Maryland, we go back the week before Labor Day. Starting on Monday. This usually works out to something like the 25th of August.
