Hi. I am currently in French II, and have been in it for nine days so far. I was in a combined class of French I and II last year, and it is the same this year. Last year, my French I had bits of French II entwined in it. This year, it turns out that I am essentialy the only one who didn't forget most of last year's curriculum. So, my teacher held me back after class and said that she would essentially be teaching a very low level French II, so that last year's students could catch up on French I material in our combined class. She told me that I would be able to skip into French III, and that she would arrange for me to sit in on a class to see how I liked it. So my question is: How much harder is French III than French II? We use the Allez-Viens! textbook.

I am really sorry but I don't take French!! LOL

I dont know about french, but I have heard that Spanish III is easier than Spanish II?

I'm in french one, but I just wanted to say those books are fantastic. Thats what we use.

For us, French I and II were like prep or introductory classes for the French language. French III was getting into the essential converstations of French...meaning, we didn't focus on a lot of the vocab. or other means of talking (passe compose, imparfait *sp?* etc.) we focused on reading children's books, listening to authentic French speaking natives and other means of communicating outside of, "this is what X means and this is what X means...". We wrote essays (many pages long) entirely in French and were expected to gain a greater understanding for fluently speaking.

This year, in the second semester, I am taking French IV...I'll see how much harder that class is than French III lol.

Keep in mind that this was for our school, our teacher and her own lesson plans.

I like them to. It's the same textbook series for Spanish and German classes here as well.

I am taking Spanish V also, which makes French MUCH easier. Now that I take both, I find that French seems easier, contrary to what everyone tells you in 4th grade when you need to pick.

According to a Language teacher that I asked, the curriculum mirrors that of Spanish IV, but obviously in French instead of Spanish. I thought that Spanish III was pretty easy.

I think that the problem will not be in memorizing how to do verbs or in learning vocabulary-I can memorize anything in seconds. The only real problem is that I will have a lot less speaking experience than everyone else. Level III is what you take after two years in high school, or after taking four years in middle and elementary school. (Which means that I'll be with a bunch of ninth graders.)I will have only one year of speaking experience. I find that I can speak very well if i practice saying it. (I won the bronze in the Connecticut COLT poetry recitation last year because I practiced many times in front of my teacher) My consolation is that the French III teacher doesn't use a Speaking Rubric like my Spanish teacher does. I have to think about this, and will definitely sit in on a class of French III to see what it's like before comitting to it. Thanks for all your replies!

Our school focuses on grammar and vocabulary. Speaking is emphasized as well, but no as strongly. There is a dedicated day to go to the language lab and watch French and Spanish movies. We also have "Listening" assignments that come from the quizzes and workbook that correspond to the textbook.

That was our French I and II class.

I took French 3 last year and from what you are telling us you should be fine...I say go for it.
