Hi there - I'm sure there is a thread about this (but search is disabled). AND I'm sure this is a hot topic, BUT I'm taking DSs, 1st and 2nd grade out of school in September for a week.

Do any of you have any special projects that you have done at WDW to ensure learning experiences. I'm sure we'll be taking school work with us and they both want a disposable camera for doing a journal. (They both enjoyed listening to the journal I kept from our last trip!)

But is there anything else you have done?

TIA, Mary

Here's just a few ideas:

- have them learn hello in the different Epcot WS countries
- have them ask the Epcot WS ambassadors in each country a simple question that would help teach them about different cultures (sample - favorite birthday custom)
- participate in the ladybug release at Epcot and some resorts?
- have them write down the hometown of the 1st 6 CM seen each day and do geography lesson on where these towns are.

Have a great trip.
:)

I agree with the above post...my girls, 7 and 9, enjoyed learning "hello" in several languages and getting those passports stamped and autographed. They also kept a SHORT journal with drawings. Other than that, they fully enjoyed their magical trip and the four days of missed classes that went along with it. Their teachers were both supportive and while the work had to get done, no extra work was expected, and they even had a week after the trip to finish up if needed. Have a WONDERFUL time with your kids - family time is important, and this particular vacation is SO MUCH more fun at less-busy times for everyone!!!

I posted this recently on another thread but bc. it fits here and we really enjoy this I'll post it here too:

When my kids were age 4+ I would do this starting several weeks before a WDW trip:
Put the name of each WS country on a piece of paper and place in a "hat". Each week the kids would pick a country from the hat. For that whole week we learned about that country. We went to the library and got books and videos, we learned a few words in the language ("hello"), learned about the traditional dress, landmarks and attractions, and ate a sample of the food of the country (if available). You can get really creative w/ this!
It really enhanced the kid's enjoyment of the World Showcase.

Try visiting www.disneydollarless.com they have a kids journal you can download and copy. I have done this for both my dd's-can't wait to give them to them.:p

hi - not sure that this stuff is still there - but in epcot there was a "teaching" section - and you could get all kinds of copies of disneyworld information - things about the countries - about environmental & science projects - plants/gardening (also the land is great for education) you can ask at the guest relations - some may be too old for your kids - but some will informational -
