school mascots

is it fairly common for elementary schools to have a mascot?

older dd will be a freshman in high school next year. the high school team is called "the Colts", and the mascot is...self-explanatory, I think.so I'm going through her stuff from middle school -- does she want to keep the sweatpants, shirts, etc. with the middle school "cougar" on them, or does she want topass that stuff down to her younger sister?

and then I come across some of their stuff from elementary school. the mascot for their elementary school was a deer. I'm told that when the school was built in the early 1960's, the area surrounding the school was all woodland, and deer used to come right up to the school windows and look into the classrooms.

the deer ar elong since gone, thank goodness. it's scary enough when I see a raccoon or a possum in my headlights!

but it leaves me wondering, how many elementary schools actually have mascots?

Mine was the Sugar Mill Panthers. Kids wore t-shirts with the logo and panther on the front of it. This was in the 80's.

I went to an elementary school called "wolf swamp elem" so I'm guessing it was a wolf...almost 100% sure it was.

middle school I was a Bulldog
HighSchool I was a lancer
College I was a Bulldog yet again

For our schools, the elementary, middle school, and high school all had the same mascot which is a wildcat. There would be shirts with a wildcat logo, or a folder and such. During football games was the only time you would see the mascot around to cheer the crowd.

The first school district I was in, the elementary school was the Colts, middle was Ponies, and High was Broncos. The other Elem I went to was the Hornets.

funny thing is, I rmeember the deer from when I was a student at that school. and I remember the cougar. but I went to the other high school in our district, and for the life of me I can't remember what their mascot is.

in college I was a Great Dane.

both school districts i attended had the same mascot for all schools within the district. one was a ram and the other was a hornet.

The school district I grew up in the mascot was the same for elementary, middle & high school. Ours was a Highlander. Yep, we had some guy dressed in a kilt. It was interesting, I'll tell you.

We didn't have one when I was in elem. school. My kids go to the same school now and they are the Cubs. My middle school was the Gladiators, high school was the Tigers, and college was the Indians when I first started but then changed to the Bulldogs.

my college(the one I REALLLLLY wanna go to) is the Wildcats(Villanova)

Primary School (K-3) Busy Bees

Elementary School (4-5, was a 4-8 when I started there, and was a K-12 at a few points in history) The Tornadoes (I would love to have some of those old jackets from the 70s-80s from there, they were too cool)

Middle School-Patriots

High School-Patriots

College-The WolfPack!!!!!

College: Oranges (well ... Orangemen ... but our mascot is a huge citrus fruit)

Sounds fun to have the consistent mascot - I'm assuming not from a large metropolitan area though - we have so many feeder schools going into the same middle/high school - wouldn't be much fun if they all had the same mascot!

Elementary - Leopards
Middle - Falcons
High School - Sky Hawks

all of My kids schools have mascots.

Cams is the Cheetas which I think is hilarious if not in slightly poor taste.
