Just checked dates for next year school hols and it looks like they have broke up easter, DD will be off good friday and easter monday, but her 2 weeks hol starts 4 April.

Wonder how that will transpire in hol costs.

Really? That seems a strange thing to do. Aren't Easter holidays called that because they run over Good Friday and Easter Sunday?! :confused3

I know it seems strange, it will confuse the kids.

Just checked the some prices online from travel co's and they seem to know as well :) ;)

Alot of LEA's over the past couple of years have decided to fix the 'spring holiday' as the first two weeks of April no matter where Easter falls. So some years Easter may be before or after the break or mixed in it somewhere! I think this is so the terms are now more or less equal lengths.

Claire ;)

Most LEA's are now working towards fixed terms, 6 weeks on, a week off, 6 weeks on 2 weeks off until the summer when you get 6 weeks holiday. As a teacher I think it makes more sence, last year we had a term in my LEA that was only 4 1/2 weeks long and had to try to put the 6 week schemes of work in to that length of time. Then we ended up with an 8 week term which means extending topics!

Some of your local colleges are changing the end of the summer term as well so that they finish on about July 1st and then go back mid August.

This is all good until you have more than one child at different schools/colleges who end up with different holidays. I'm already realising that with oldest DD changing schools next year and having slightly different holidays and totally different training days. One good thing though at least they'll be peaceful days with only one DD at home

I think though that TA's will just extend the peak times to get all the school holidays!

Our LEA have announced a 'spring holiday' next year, starting 7th April for 2 weeks. I was hoping it was just us so that we could get a cheap holiday.

I can't see that we will ever have exactly even terms. The autumn term is always much longer, as it's 'bound' by Christmas and then the second half of summer term is always long as it's 'bound' by Whitsun.

I can't believe you weren't allowed to 'carry over' your topic. Surely they don't think children will have forgotten it all during a one week holiday!:rotfl:

The terms are more or less even now that we have a spring break that is not always attached to Easter. Christmas is always on Dec 25th and the Whitsun break hasn't been that for a long time it's now the Spring Bank Holiday which is alwys the last Monday in May. Easter was the last moveable celebration to still dictate the school holidays.

Can I just add that Travel Agents don't fix any prices anywhere! its tour operators that do this not us!

Our terms will still be uneven next year, even though our spring break will not be at Easter. We go back to school on 21st April, for a 5 week term, (because we have to take our holiday when the second May Bank Holiday falls) then after that we have a 7 and half week term! That will be a long 'un.:scared1: By the time I get to the end of that one I will be sick of the sight of my class! (Don't suppose I should admit that, though:o )
(And it will always be Whitsun to me, even when it doesn't fall on Whitsun - too old to change me now.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:)
