This may have been already asked, so if it is a duplicate question, I appologize

Does anyone know the dates for the school holidays for Xmas 2006? :scratchin

I am in the planning mode again ;) and am considering going for late December 2006/Early January 2007 depending on the High School's break

I know that December would be "premium" but the first week of January would be "value" which would make it a little easier on the budget ::yes::

If any of you know, I would appreciate your posts :sunny:

TIA

Hi Marilynn

Trip was GREAT :thumbsup2 Thanks for asking :sunny:

The weather was cooler at the beginning of the trip but warmed up to the 80's towards the last 4 days of it :woohoo:

I bet you can't wait for your trip now ::yes::

I went on Soarin'........LOVED It

Kids went on Expedition Everest........said it was fantastic

Can't wait to go in May and show DH what he missed ;)

Thanks for the website link, I did look at it, but it only shows up to end of June for this current school year. I was hoping that maybe a teacher on these boards might have inside info as to what the 2006/2007 calendar is.

If not, I'll call the school board tomorrow and try to find out.

Talk to you soon!!!

I work in York Region and I was told the Holidays start on Saturday, December 23 and school resumes on Monday, January 8. I am still waiting for the "official" announcement but this holiday schedule aligns with the ministry suggested holidays.

Our school break for the Christmas Holiday begins at the end of the school day on Friday. Dec 22, 2006 and they have to be back to school Monday 1/8/07. We are going to WDW 1/1-9/07. Figure kids can miss 2 days.

I asked this question last year and it is a wide assortment of the following:

Some have the week before Christmas to the day after New Years
Some have the schedule like mine above
Some only have the week between Christmas & New Years.
The main commonality is the week between Christmas & New Years, I think just about every kid in the nation is out of school that week.
It seems to me that alot of employers give their employees that week off or let them take vacation time as it is a slow time of year for some industries.

Happy Planning

I called our board office today (in Lindsay) and was told that they won't know until the spring.
We are booked in Florida for Dec 16 - Jan 6 so the kids will miss one week plus one day of school (I assume). The school was totally fine about them missing a week in Dec 2005, so I'm sure they will be fine about this upcoming Christmas.

Wish it was like when I was a kid and I could miss two weeks at a time without issues, but I think these days, that would really be pushing it.

High school teacher here - this year school boards will more than likely know by spring. Our xmas break from last month was a mix up for some who were planning early because all boards had originally booked the week before xmas. Someone along the line decided that we should be going to school until a few days before, and so a few school boards (I think it started in Toronto) petitioned the min. of ed. for a change, which then precipitated all other boards to do so and so every Ontario school had the same xmas break (a few private schools elected to keep their original scheduled breaks of week before xmas). All school calendars must be approved by min. of ed. and then final approved by school board trustees in each city. This past break seemed to work well, so we are hearing that next year's break will more than likely be the same, but there are no guarantees until your board trustees approve the school calendar for that upcoming year - usually this is done by spring (usually no later than May).

Many people last year were going crazy on the DIS due to the schedule change, but many of us teachers reminded people of how the school calendars are approved, and so no one should be making any non-refundable plans unless 1) You know the trustees have approved the school calendar as it will not change after this or 2) You are planning to take kids out of school should the schedule not coincide with your travel plans.

Good luck and happy planning, Tiger

Thanks everyone for your post's :sunny:

I am hoping that the Holidays in the Durham Region schools will be the same as York Region (Dec 23 to Jan 8, Thanks Andrea for the info :thumbsup2 ) as this would make it easier for my family to go to WDW.

I will be calling the school board today to check and see if they know anything yet ::yes::

Hi Tiger926 :wave2:

Thanks for taking the time to reply :thanks:

I appreciate all the info you have given :thumbsup2

I didn't get to call the school board today (got too busy at work) but maybe it was just as well as they may not know anything just yet anyway :scratchin

I won't book anything until I can confirm the dates :hourglass

Still hoping for a break similar to 2005 where we can take advantage of the "value season" starting on Jan 1st :goodvibes

Have a Great Weekend :sunny:
