Hello....does anyone know how we can find out the dates of the school summer holidays for Summer 2010.

I've looked at several sites on the web and they all seem to agree that they will break up on the 23rd July...but I can't see anywhere when the will go back.

We prefer to go as late as we can, but it is important that we are back and rested before they go back since DGd starts her new high school and needs to be there from day 1 ...we would like to go for 4 weeks this time.

It often depends on the LEA as dates do often vary, where abouts is your DGD?

Claire ;)

Just checked Kent and Sussex and they say September 2nd for 2010.

We are in N.Yorkshire...can't seem to find anything on the LEA site, but I'll have another look.

If you can't find dates on the local authority site the best thing to do is ring them, you should be able to get the dates easily that way. Make sure you get the dates for YOUR education authority as there can be condiderable differences across the country. Also worth contacting to school to see what staff training days they have planned for Sept 2010 as that may give you an extra day or two. Good Luck

Doesn't appear N Yorks have dates up yet, just seen W Yorks show as September 1st so may be best to work off them, in any case it can't be much earlier as BH is August 30th!

thanks everyone....I just phoned the local authority and a very helpful lady gave me another number and they were able to tell me it's 23/7 to 1/9...so that's a little less than the 6 weeks they usually get.......but as you say Training days may be allocated then...it's so early we're not even sure which High School she'll be going to.....but we want to start booking, especially the flights as soon as we can..

We are lucky just now in Kirklees, dates there upto July 2011 but its not always like this, had to contact them a few times asking for dates but always get the same response, "they will be on the website as soon as we know"
Next year will be dificult for us, DS does his GCSE's in June then no idea what he is doing yet, he will still only be 15 and probably no idea what he wants to do :confused3

This Sept the website says going back Tuesday Sept 1st (day we land home) in reality he goes back lunchtime on Thursday 4th.

Warwickshire school children are back on 6th Sept - there is such a huge disparity amongst LEA's!

North Yorks have sent me an e-mail. The official school hols end at the bank holiday, but then there will be the inset days, which are set by the school not the LEA.

If you send me your e-mail address in a PM, I will foward you the e-mail.

We have booked to go out on the 14/08/10, as I was getting no joy with the dates and was in the same position as you with secondary school.

I think that the year 7's will go back either on the Thursday or Friday, and everyone else will go back the following Monday.

What part of North Yorkshire are you in?

Hi, we are in Kirklees too. GCSE year (and A level for that matter) can be a good opportunity to get away before the schools actually break up, as once they finish their exams (end of June) they have finished school. Of course if you have a younger child still at school it doesn't work, but if you don't you can sometimes get away a little more cheaply.

I'm in Essex and we finish on 23/8/10 (actually on 22/8 as we have an Inset day on 23rd) - your local educational authority should have a web page with this information. Traditionally you go back on 1st September, but depends on what day of week this is and whether or not your school has Inset days - loads of schools will use at least one day here for teachers to get classrooms straight or essential training for all staff.

Surrey go back on 2nd September 2010.

Do bear in mind that senior schools often have their new pupils (year 7) goiing back on the 1st day without the older pupils. Therefore she's less likely to benefit from training days than the rest of the school.
