School fundraisers

It finally hit me what the schools are actually doing when they send fundraiser stuff home with the kids. They're giving them a taste of what it's like to be salespeople. Letting them know at an early age that selling things is hard work-to go find something that's not so nerve racking to do when they grow up. I'm sure there are a few kids that learn the opposite, and they probably grow up and become fantastic sales people. All in all, a learning experience. Almost as much fun as algebra.

I dont mind a funraiser here or there but dang. At the beginning of every yr my 2 oldest each have one for the school and another one for football. So thats already 4 to start (my neighbors are starting to hide from us, lol). This yr my oldest in addition to the 2 her already had now football team is having a raffle. Thank God I only have 2 in school right now.

I'm in fundraiser hell right now! DD just brought home all the stuff she sold, in her school fundraiser. It's the Sally Foster giftwrap, candy, etc.

Well, I was clever enough to save the carbon copy of the order sheet, showing what everyone bought. But what I didn't realize is that some people didn't write hard enough to have the information transfer to the 2nd sheet!

Argggg! I've got at least 5 people who I'm not sure what they ordered. And if any of them are like me, they won't remember what they ordered.

We just got done with magazine sales which really stressed me out. They expect each kid to sell 10 subscriptions. We only sold 7 and next year I will have another dd, so we'll be expected to sell 20. They get 40% off the subscriptions back to the school. I'd rather write them a check for $100 and be done with it!

I need to turn in my Sally Foster order. Guess I will get that together this weekend. There's not as much pressure with this one. That should be it for a while.

My kids are doing the QSP Reader's Digest fund raiser now. I like that one the LEAST. In February, they'll have the candy bars to sell. That one I don't mind as much. Some schools have the Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser, my kids' school doesn't. I wish they did though. I don't like this overpriced tin of few chocolates and overpriced wrapping paper they're trying to sell now.

In August we had the magazine drive, now it's the popcorn for the boy scouts, and in November it's the auction which they want a donation for to be raffled off and volunteers. I'm taking a break from the volunteering this year. Last year they had me there until 1:30 a.m. Never will be there that late again!

Lol! That's the way I felt with the girl scout cookies!

Also, I still say give me a box of candy bars and I can sell those alot easier!!

Right now dd has the option to sell the Entertainment Book for school.
Girl Scout fall fundraiser starts Nov. 1...now our troop does need the money.
Magazine sales were at the beginning of the year for us.

we also just finished the sally foster sale and our first (and my last ) auction. We are done fundraising for the school this year! YAY!!!! Maggie

I actually LIKE the magazine sale (QSP) because you can do it on line and have your friend and relatives from all over place their own orders. I also order Christmas gifts for all my nieces and nephews with this. Makes the budget crunch in December a little easier to handle...

The worst has to be Sally Foster -- when we first moved to Georgia, I was totally amazed that they sent this stuff home with the kids on the FIRST day of school!!! UGH.

My kids are both in high school now, so the school-wide (their school is pre-K through high school) magazine sale and the auction are all we really have to contend with. (I hope!!)

I dont let my DD do the fundraisers where she is selling wrapping paper ect.... (only because sooooo many other kids are doing it as well I just dont want to hit up friends and neighbors)
But... We do the fundraisers such a walk a thon, and comming up next weekend we are doing a school carnival!!

I am our schools PTA's president. I really hate sending home the fundraisers. I wish there were a better way. Our district, spearheaded by my self, will be looking to start an educational foundation, the new trend in school fundraising, to go after some of the corporate money out there. These foundations have been very successful in recent years.

What really drove me crazy, was the one of the other schools in our district, the one that has all the 5th and 6th graders, sent their packet home the very first day of school--even before they sent the emergency contact card home-----very tacky.

This year our school decided to try something different. We asked that each family pay $25. per child with a limit of $75. per family. Some families loved this idea, but others didn't. We told them that if they didn't pay the cash, they would be expected to fundraise. We've decided to go with cookie and muffin dough. We always did really well with this in the past but it's more work than chocolates. We're hoping that if they find out how much work it is, they'll opt for the up-front cash next year By the way, we offered payment plans for those that would find it hard to come up with cash all at once, so that it wouldn't be too hard on those with limited income.

I was talking to my brother about fundraisers the other day. He thought they were BAD for self-esteem. The kids who don't sell alot feel bad or can't win those over priced prizes.

I like the idea of the option of just paying cash! I'd rather do that then buy overpriced wrapping paper and flower bulbs!

I don't have young kids that have to do fundraisers, but I can't wait every year for my DGD's, nephews and neighbors to come around selling Innesbrook wraping paper. I love this stuff. You get a lot on the roll, and the paper is top quality.

My DD has had three so far this year, two for band and one for the school sponsored by PTA which my wife volenteers with. The PTA one is hard when it comes to freezer space and coordination because they sell frozen cookie dough. My wife has to be at the school next week to help unload the semi truck worth of cookie dough oredered.

Our school does not have kids sell stuff. So no fundraisers here. We do have the boy scouts and the girl scouts and other organizations. But if something is needed they just ask the parents to write a check. The CC team wants a tent for meets. So they asked that parents for pledges and the team had a 50/50 raffle at one of the football games (different organizations run the 50/50 raffles and split the money earned with the athletic boosters).

Anyways school policy is that kids do not have to sell anything. It is all up to the parents to fundraise.
