so all through elementary school and middle school I found myself purchasing huge amounts or wrapping paper from the PTA.

so now older dd is in high school, and on the cheerleading squad. and they want to raise money so that they can go to comeptitions in the spring.

they selling cookie dough.

not cookies. unbaked dough. you have to scoop it onto a cookie sheet and bake it yourself. each tub makes 4 dozen cookies.

anyone want to buy a tub of cookie dough?

Our school sells that too, my neighbor got it for me last Christmas as a gift. Last week my daughter came home from soccer with a fundraiser-Frozen Cheesecakes, Pies and Frozen Pizzas. A few days later she came home with the one from school for wrapping paper and other junk.

I'll buy the cookie dough if you buy the magazines and Entertainment Books that my daughter's school is selling. Plus my Market Day order is due this Friday. :D

We have nuts and chocolate and we have stuffed animals... lol, any takers?

No fundraisers for us as of yet....but I am sure they are coming.

How are those frozen cookie dough tubs, do they make yummy cookies?

No thanks, we start selling wrapping paper and cookie dough on Friday. We won't be buying any because pick-up time is 2-4 on a Friday and I am NOT taking off work for a school fundraiser.

DD is a senior this year and no fund raisers yet! But oldest DGD will be selling Frankenmuth cheese spread and sausage as well as candy by the end of this week!!!!

Our marching band sells cheesecakes just before Thanksgiving. Believe it or not...they sell themselves! I get people coming up to me at work asking when I'm going to start taking orders. It's kind of a pain bringing frozen cheesecakes to work, but it's a fairly easy and profitable fundraiser.

We don't have the cookie dough. We do magazines which I actually like. I do all my renewels through them. Since I have to renew them, might as well support the school at the same time.
A couple of times they did frozen pizzas (like stouffers french bread style). They also had stuffed pretzels. I liked buying that stuff.
Thankfully no wrapping papar drives here.....

Our Middle School has a fundraiser I really agree with: they ask each family to contribute $35 (or whatever you can afford). Goes right to the PTSA, it's tax-deductible, and it doesn't fill my freezer! Unfortunately, didn't realize the various clubs still have to do fundraisers, so we'll have cheesecake afterall!

Thank Goodness my kid's school this year is giving parents the option of either doing fundraisers or paying an activity fee.

I will go to the Booster Club silent auction dinner though (includes babysitting) and renew my magazine subscriptions. I might even buy a few candy bars. But I don't have to try and peddle junk to my unsuspecting family!!! :)

Just a thought but the PTO at our old school asked in the letter that went home to parents that if they didn't want to buy the stuff they could send a donation. It turned out that if I wrote a check for $30 the school got to keep all of it but if I bought $30 from the fundraiser they only got $12.00.
On the other hand that cookie dough is really good!:D

I refuse to let my kids do the public school fundraisers. They are both in scouts, and we do those fundraisers, because it's clear what they go for. That being said, if a child comes to my door selling a fundraiser, unless it's completely unreasonable, I'll almost always buy something. Yes, I've even bought the wrapping paper. Basically, $10 is my limit for something door to door.

If the public school needs to charge an activity fee, or offer the fundraiser if you want to offset paying the fee, I'm fine with that. But I'm really not happy to have my child pressured to sell things to support my public schools. They always play up the "prizes" the kids get for selling x amount, which just makes me so upset. My DS just kept saying "But Tony says that we all have to do our part, and that there are such great prizes!" Tony is apparently the adult who's the fundraising company's rep. DS really thinks he's letting the school down if he doesn't do this!

Can you tell our first school fundraiser just came home last week?

Heres a hint if you have too much cookie dough to use at once. Scoop the dough into the size balls that you want and put them on a cookie sheet, freeze and then after they are frozen, put them in a ziplock bag and store in the freezer. Then you can take out as many or as few as you want and bake them when you want.

Our PTA is doing Entertainment Books and Home Interior Candles. I don't have any problem with it, I just have to figure out how to make it fair with two kids in school now! Some of the gifts that the PTA is giving for sales are nice, yet I know that both of my boys won't qualify. So who gets to turn in the orders???

*~*~ Our PTA uses the monies to pay for special assemblies and mini-grants for the teachers to do special events.

My niece came home on the first day of school with an order form for a cookbook. The PTA parents had them made. They cost $10 each, or $12 each if you want it shipped to your home.

Last year their school sold certificates good for Subway subs. That fundraiser went over well.

Usually our school sells overprices junk. When the kids bring that stuff home we just give a donation instead of selling that stuff. Buying a $10 roll of wrapping paper is ridiculous, IMHO. The only ones who make out by the kids selling this overpriced crap is the company who makes the brochure.

The cookie dough is really good...and it makes good cookies too. ;) I still have some in my freezer from last spring.
However running the cookie dough fudraiser and having to sort out all those tubs of dough was not much fun, not to mention tyring to make sense of the way some parents sent in their orders. I was in cookie dough hell for a few weeks. ;)

Those fundraisers are essential to the success of your child's schools PTA. The money is used in various ways. My child's school uses the majority of the money for Arts in Education programs. They have guests come into the school or have a PTA sponsored activity at least once a month. The programs are terrific. Each year a budget is put out for all to review and approve at your PTA meetings. Get a copy of one and you'll see where all the money goes!

Got that one just today! I have no freezer so I have to eat a space for it!
