School Food Question - Thanks #18

I used to work for Head Start daycares, and they had a similar policy, all items brought in from parents, ect. had to have all labels on them. No peanut products from our food service company (which includes all Little Debbie products :( ) and we served NO ham, turkey dogs, turkey ham, ect. So I dont think its too weird

We recently had to find a private elementary school for our daughter for the fall and one of our first questions was about the lunches. They provide a great variety of food but our daughter if very picky :headache: . I hate it, I wish I could change it but it is just the way it is. Luckily, the school we liked does allow outside lunches. That would have been a deal-breaker for us.

As for all the soy products--I don't know what to think of that. As someone else said, my DD would starve before eating soy. DS relies on soy, on the other hand. He can't do dairy and soy milk and some other products have done wonders for him. He wouldn't care, or notice, if that was all he was offerered. But he doesn't like ham :teeth:

I agree that the school's "no meat" (except occasional ham?) sounds odd.

At the grade school DS will be going to next year, there isn't a cafeteria. The room moms take turns bringing in fast food for the "hot meal". Yup, if you want your child to have the school lunch every day, he/she would have Taco Bell, Dominos Pizza, Boston Market, etc. every day of the week. :crazy2: Guess I'll be packing a lot of sack lunches.

DD's private school doesn't have a cafeteria either, what they do is have a catered healthy (well, let's say better than McDs healthy) lunch for $3 on Mon, Wed and Fri, so I only have to pack a lunch 2 times a week. Maybe you should sign up for that committee next year ;)
