they're changing the colors at dd's middle school.

my daughters go to the same schools my sisters and I attended. the colors and mascots have been the same as far back as we can remember.

we have two middle schools in our district and two high schools. the colors for High School East are red and black, and the mascot is a thunderbird. the colors for High School West are red , white and gold. the mascot is a colt.

my dd's middle school colors are blue and gold, the mascot is the cougar. the school administration feels that since all the kids at dd's middle school go on to West, our school should have the same red, white and gold as the high school. the other middle school in our district (blue and white, wolverine) would use the red and black colors of High School East, since all of their students go to East.

back when I was a student we had two high schools and three junior high schools. kids from all three junior highs attended West and kids from all three junior highs attended East, so it was not feasible to align a junior high with a high school.

they say they want to do this for uniformity throughout the school district.

I feel like we're losing a piece of our identity.

how do most middle schools do it these days?

DD's elementary school, middle and high school all have blue and gold.

There are 4 elementary schools that feed into the middle school, I have no idea if the other 3 schools have the same colors too.

Our school district is smaller than that, we have 1 each (ES, MS and HS) The colors are royal blue and white and the mascot is the eagle, for all of the schools.

I guess it all depends on the feeling of unity between all of the schools. Do they consider each other family or rivals?

Around here, it seems like each school has its own unique colors and mascot. We have the elementry, intermediate, and junior high. They all eventually feed into the same high school, but none share the same colors. When I was in school, we had 2-3 junior highs feed into my high school , and from those three schools, only one fed soley into the H.S. again, none of them had the same colors.

I think it is a shame to change just for the sake of changing.
