How truly awful.

We had some drownings here a couple days ago--6 teenagers, all related (cousins, 3 from one family, 3 from another). So very tragic.

We had the news on and my DH saw me getting upset about it so we have the food network on now. I just can't bare the thought of any child being hurt. My prayers go out to all involved.

I live in the metro STL area and have been listening to coverage on new radio today. It is being reported that 2 people have died; one being the driver of the smaller truck that hit the 18 wheeler first, and one being a female high school student from the first bus.

It is all so sad...

Yeah, that was the last I heard too. :sad1: No real report on any of the injured.
I had actually seen a few pictures, and until I read about the man in the pickup, I didn't even realize that there was a pickup truck involved! You can barely make it out amidst all of the wreckage. :guilty:

truly heartbreaking I saw it on our news a few hours ago, it said every available law enforcement officer in the area was called to the scene, even the reporter was stunned about the SUV that was under the bus (?) I pray for all concerned

You can hardly tell there was even an SUV involved - it is so mangled there is no way anyone could have survived. Very sad and I will be keeping those folks in my thoughts.

Channel 5 was talking to a girl who was supposed to be on the trip and she was texting with her friends and from her description there are some serious injuries for the girl's bus (bus on top of the trailer cab). The girls that were sitting in the back of the bus were seriously hurt. Apparently the seats collapsed onto them. This is where the girl was killed.

Obviously the driver of the SUV/truck (vehicle sandwiched between the bus and the truck cab) is dead.

Thanks for the info. I'm at work and have been following along with news on the web...

my dh was a little freaked out about it because our kids head to Pacific with the YMCA to swim on Thursdays and he had not yet heard that it was teenagers heading to six flags.

That stretch of I44 from Eureka to Gray Summit has had way way way to many fatal car accidents going both directions due to slow traffic in the area (its always under construction, the hills are not what people are use to etc..)

They are also reporting that the driver of the smashed SUV might be a Mizzou football player- but they were still confirming that so it could change. Truly sad, but thanks to passing motorists that stopped and helped:littleangel: get the kids out of the busses- it wasn't worse. :guilty:

I saw that on my main Yahoo page when I got on the computer a few minutes ago and said a quick prayer.. Sometimes I wish I didn't have access to the news..:sad1:

 It truly breaks your heart!!! I don"t know why, but it always seem so much more shocking when it is so close to home.:sad2:

You're right. There have been way too many horrific accidents on that stretch of interstate. We were talking about it last night, and it almost seems like maybe they should lower the speed limit on that stretch to 40-45 mph. But then people would probably still speed right through and cause even more danger to the ones going 40-45. So who knows what the answer is. But something needs to be done...

When my 19yodd gets back from China we are reading her the riot act about 44 and this whole mess.:sad2:

She travels too close to drivers on the HWY as far as DH and I are concerned. She needs more space.

Plus she is headed to Springfield for college and will be driving that stretch many, many times. Coincidentally my brother is moving down there as well and we are are to be helping out with that as well.

I am going to make sure we are very careful around that construction area as I will be going down there quite a bit. Plus...(cough..cough) good excuse to bring the boat and jet skis down there.
