school band fundraising cookie dough question

did your kids sell cookie dough for a fundraiser? do you remember how much it sold for, how much your band got, and how much was credited towards your childs account for the band trip?

Yes, I ran one. It sold for 11-12 bucks a thing and we got 5.50, I think. The company also sold coffee and cappacino for those non-cookie dough people. We did very well with it, I think we made over $7000 in profit.

The only thing think I will point out....the people who do not pick up the dough on delivery day, cause major storage issues (I had cookie dough everywhere....5 different fridges and freezers in the school).

My DS brought this one home as a fundraiser for his MS. Oigh was a Pain this one is. It's expensive and a tough sell because of the price but I have to admit I don't remember what the price was. If it's optional I wouldn't do it. We didn't end up selling any. And in the end I was glad he didn't have any success as we were responsible for picking it up at a set time and the dough needs to be kept refrigerated in between the pick up time and the delivery. The tubs are big and take up a lot of room.

My DD13 just did this fundraiser for her cheerleading uniform.. It sold for $15 and we got $6 for each tub. She easily sold 33 tubs. We only had a week or it would have been more. It covered the entire cost of her uniform. Some people bought more than 1 tub. It made some very good cookies. Wish I had bought more. If she doesn't cheer next year, I will find someone to buy it from. Good luck!

We picked it up and delivered it on our way home...it stayed cool and was no problem. I believe they were 3lb tubs but were packaged in very compact boxes.

We had several schools do this fundraiser a few years ago. The prices were $12-15 per tub. Yes, they were a pain to deal with, but people did buy them cause they make good cookies.

We also did the pizza one and that is great pizza and easier to deal with.

This is the main fundraiser for the middle school in our area. It brings a lot of money, but you need to arrange for storage of the cookie dough that is not picked up on the delivery day (freezers--maybe the home ec dept can help out). Profit is generally quoted at 50%, if the students receive prizes, the profit is more like 40% or so (I was the treasurer for a while). The cookie dough sold here now comes in flat boxes, it's individual quick frozen cookies. Very easy to pop a few cookies in the oven and bake, so it's very popular.

DD participated in a cookie dough fundraiser a couple of years ago - the buckets of dough were ~12 and the profit was $4 or $5 a tub. We limited DD in how much she could sell - because the cookie dough was arriving at a time when her and I were out of town at a torunament, and DH needed to pick it up and get it into our freezer. (Sorry - DH is NOT going to deliver cookie dough)

I feel the same about any frozen food fundraiser. I will only allow as much to be sold as I can fit in my freezer. That is all.

it's not optional. We will definitely do it -- some of the proceeds go to the child's account to help pay for the band trip this year. I was just curious if anyone knew how much profit the band would get.

Don't know where you're located, but I'm in TN. We were told by an auditor that it was illegal for us to have individual band accounts for students unless they were paying taxes (1099 form?) on what they "earned", fundraisers included. You might want to check beofre you get slapped with a huge fine.
