Any recommendations for a 10 year old. He is 5' tall, so can't use a really small one. He has been using an LL Bean for a few years now and is just wanting a new one. I had him look at their site and Lands End and he didn't like any of them. The only one I could find him online that he liked was a North Face. I was wondering if their backpacks are durable and if they also offer a similar warranty to LL Bean and Lands End. If there are any other brands you like, I would love to hear also.

We're a large, active family that uses backpacks very heavily for school, travel, camping. We've tried several brands including LL Bean and Lands End but over the years we've found Jansport to be the most durable. We've never had zipper trouble with Jansport as we have with the other brands. I don't know if they have a guarantee, because we've never had a problem with any of them. We buy them on sale online at REI where they have a good selection.
Sorry, we haven't tried North Face so I can't help with that one.

We always buy DaKine backpacks, it has survived DS' last year without any holes, runs, nothing. I still have mine that I use for travel from 2005 or earlier, still looks new!

We got my daughter an awesome bag from Ebags.com - was $22 included shipping - it came and its awesome - its a High Serria Bag

We love Jansport. We bought both our boys Jansport bags last school, year, and my younger ended up with a small tear near the straps, and a small hole in the bottom. We sent the pack this summer for repair thru their lifetime warranty. Not only I'd they replace the pack we sent for repair with a brand new pack, but they also sent a second brand new pack for him at no charge!!! The extra pack has a suede bottom, which the first pack didn't have. We were shocked to get two replacement packs!

Agreed on Jansport. After years of buying the cute character bags & having them be trash by the end of the school year I invested in Jansport bags a few years ago. I fully expect my HS son will carry his off to college.
Occasionally you can find them on clearance at Target. I'm hoping to pick one up cheap for Toys for Tots.

Another vote for High Sierra here. My DS13 is about to start his third year with the same backpack and it's still in good condition. DD11 just got her second and she used the last one for three years. I can't comment on warranty because we've not had any trouble with them. Use for school, travel, camping year round. I found DDs at Costco this week. Brought it home to compare quality with the others we have and it's made the same.
