School and Disney

I think its fine as long as you don't go on vaca for a long time. For me I can go whenever because i'm homeschooled so i've never had to deal w/ teachers but I still think its fine to go on vaca for a few days. :upsidedow

I've missed from two to three weeks of middle school, and my brother has missed the same for grade 10 & 11.
We're still in school.
We both haven't failed (however, if I fail, I don't have to redo my grade) and caught up rather easily.

If you're not in high school, I think a vacation is worth more than your grades. I don't use what I learned in grade 6 a whole lot, but I have tons of memories from my first Disney trip.

Plus, coming from where I live, Disney would be too crowded and too hot in the summer for us to go.

It's probably smart though, to make your travel plans around a weekend like Easter weekend, where you're likely to not miss a few days.
Like, every year we've gone to Disney, they've had teacher curriculum days, so I've lost less days of school.

There's nothing wrong with parents pulling kids out for a week or two. The teachers should send students with the work that they would be doing, or send a composition book so they can do a writing assignment about the trip or something.

Now, pulling your kids out for a month is another can of soup!

I do most of my homework before I go.
And whatever they want me to on the trip.
My french teacher last year wanted me to write an ENTIRE BOOK on my trip. I just said forget it, and did it in three hours a week after I came back.
A+

I've missed a week of school numerous times for Disney. As long as you do good, and get caught up, there is nothing wrong with it. I would rather have to make-up school work, and wait no more than 15 minutes for a ride in the middle of January, than not miss school, and wait 3 hours.

Every year in school we got pulled out for Disney. During my senior year of high school I got pulled out for a week. It was my option to go to WDW (didn't have to go - mom and sister stayed home) but I was able to make up the work.

A week off of school for a WDW vacation was not rare for me. I just made up the work as I needed to. It didn't drop my grades. In fact, as each year progressed, my grades got better and better. Junior and senior year I got all A's. I graduated on the National Honor Society and had no problem attendence wise. I was within my borders of how many days they allow.

As long as you make up the work, don't let it drag you down, and inform your teachers that you will be gone a while so they can expect it, you should be fine. Things were fine for me from grades 2-12. ;)

It's ok as long as the kid can make up all their schoolwork and they don't miss too many days.
I don't know about other places, but at my school if you're absent from a class too many times you can lose that credit, even if you're passing.

I think it depends, because in 3 rd grade I missed 2 days of school for disney but that was ok. But if it was middle school or high school that would be kind of tough because of all the work to make up and notes and tests. But that is just my opinion.:confused3

I think it's alright for elementary/jr high kids.

ig to pulled out all the time during elementary school & jr high school for disney.

but once you hit high school it's harder to keep up, and the teachers are much less accommodating.

In elementary school my teachers would always put a work package together for me to do on thr trip there/back.

But in high school, the teachers would never do that!

Once I hit high school we started going in the summer just before school began.

School is important.

But answer me this. When youre married and you have children, are you going to remember what you learned on those few days, or are you going to remember the time you had with your family in WDW?

No teacher will ever tell you this, but there are more important things than school. Family happens to be one of them.

Never been taken out of school to go to WDW only for a Disney Cruise. My brother is taken out of school atleast once a year to go to WDW.

i completely agree.

i have this one teacher (my drama teacher) and he is a huge jerk nazi-man about being absent.

I was absent last friday because i was getting ready for prom and then on the following monday because i was at the beach with my friends!

he tried to lay a guilt trip on me, but i don't regret it one bit.
I had a GREAT time with my friends, and the memories I made are way more fun than the rehearsal day i missed. :goodvibes

My friend takes days off school alot to go to disney, even in her senior year she did.
so if you can swing it, go for it.
sure education is important, but sometimes you just need some time to let loose and HAVE FUN.

I don't show a lot of respect towards school.
Yes, I know it's important to learn.
But a lot of what I learn, my parents themselves say they haven't used it since they were in school. My teachers, have even said this themselves.

My teachers don't blame me for missing a test, or missing some notes. I go get the notes from my friends, and I do fine.
The only exception is my art teacher. He is such an evil man. He works at another school, so he never ever gives us extra help at lunch or after school so we can get caught up on what we missed (if we were sick, on vacation, at the dentist, etc.) so we never get caught up. It just piles up, because we never do anything for more than one art class.
And then he yells at us for not doing our work and gives us horrible marks.

i woodnt wanna miss school, id havta make up a ton of homework and tests when i got back and i woodnt beable to enjoy my trip.
