Don't you just love these things? I get sooo excited when they come. The kids pick out what they want. Then I look at it, over & over until I have picked just the right books. I always make sure I buy all of the 95 cent books. We usually get Magic Tree house books from DS8's order form. DS3's order form is even more fun because they always great bedtime books. :)

YES!!! I love them as well. I am always so happy to help out the school. In fact, starting tomorrow at Matt's school is the Scholastic Book Fair. Figure I would pick up a few books to give him on the plane ride on Saturday:)

:( Isn't happy with scholastic anymore:( still think they have good books, but dd joined thier magic club 2 years ago, they started out the first three orders g reat,, then she started getting partial shipments, late, missing vital parts,, and when i had my wreck last occt, we called in nov and asked that they stop sending the kits because of the quality and that we were trying to save some cash she needed for her piano lessons, they continued shipping each month till jan, then threatened us with a collection agency when we refused to keep paying, i just this month got them to admit they were wrong and to "0" thre account balance, these people were rude, un cooperative and harrassing about it till i told them i had not only the checks, and the phone bills showing the dates we called,,, and a copy of the letter dw sent with the last paYMENT ASKING THE SHIPMENTS BE STOPPED.

:( Oh my! How terrible. I'm glad we never let the children join the clubs. We just enjoy picking the books out. :)

My son just picked out a bunch of books and is happily awaiting delivery of them. I think they are cheaper than what I could buy at Chapters. And he specifically likes the Goosebumps series and won't read just any book. I can't get him to read library books, can't figure it out either as to why he won't read an old book.

usually my kids no only to ask for a couple and never "not a book", but this time my daughter wanted the electronic organizer. She used her own money (was a dollar short) and did chores for the extra buck. Boy does she love that thing. She's put all her friends, family, and emergency numbers in it, set the alarm, added important info., and of course is practing math games. We also had to get the SuperFudge book by Judy Blume for 95 cents. Think I might read this myself (LOL), I used to love Judy Blume.:teeth:

If you have a Scholastic warehouse nearby, log onto their website and register. They usually have two big sales a year where there are aisles and aisles of books half price. The first one is usually before Christmas and the other in May or June. And, it not just children's books!

I do the Scholastic book orders with my students at school. They get so excited! They start asking the moment I make the order, "Is it here yet?" The 50% off Warehouse sale here is on Dec 10th! :bounce:

Another big fan--my kids love to read, and it's a good source for quality books. If I had a complaint, it's that the sheets sent hom ehave mostly books that are too easy, but I think that's more a "problem" with my early readers! But even then, I can always find something. We have the book fair in May, also, and I usually drop a wad there.

This year, DS7's teacher announced a book exchange for Christmas--sounds like a great idea, and he specifically mentioned the Scholastic books as a good source.

P.S. Froggy, sorry about your experience. I would never try those clubs because they always sound better than they turn out to be, plus shipping and handling kills you.

BuzznBelle'sMom,
Re: books being too easy: Our teachers would get the older kids' packets from the next grade's teacher and send them home with our kids. Maybe your teacher would do that?

I love Scholastic. I've ordered for several years without any problems. I always buy the $.50 & $.95 books. How can we go wrong with those prices.

Most of the points earned from your book purchases go towards the teachers. I know when a teacher participate in Scholastic that they are interested in adding books to their classroom. Always a good thing.

WOW you actually heard back from them?? I had emailed them about some books--more than once and they never bothered to email me back

Parents of middle schoolers: Look at the books offered closley...you may want something for yourself!:D

I bought "Sea Bisquit" from DS's book order and the savings was about 65% off of retail!

The warehouse sale can be overwhelming...a literal warehouse full of books, all at half price! I suggest that you make a list of what you're looking for before you go there.

I agree that the clubs aren't the same caliber. In fact, I tell my kids not to even look at that page! But overall, we've had great experiences. And yes, the teachers always send home the older kids sheets for my kids since they are in such advanced books.

I hadn't thought to ask for the older book lists--good idea! And they do usually have some science-type books for my little geeks-in-training. Overall, though, I can usually find a few books they'll like...and it's not like we have a shortage in our house to begin with!

I wish we could have gotten SuperFudge for 95 cents! It wasn't in our flier. MY problem with DS8 is that he always wants one of the toys. Sometimes I allow him to get one, but not too often. Usually they don't know what I ordered until it come in. :)

I was surprised when DS brought home an order form when he got into 9th grade but it was a smart move on the school's part! I found alot of great books and donated them to the school. Most of them were Spanish books and vhs (just cute books or stories) that we donated to the Spanish language class. She said they were perfect for her beginner students. The boys have always gotten Scholastic books throughout their school years!

Oh wow. I didn't know they went up to that age. DD is in 7th & they don't receive book orders. I wish they did. :)

I have a love/hate thing with Scholastic.....we love the books, but unfortunately I often can't afford them. So it sometimes makes for a difficult afternoon when I have to say no to my kids. (We do go to the library, lest anyone think I'm denying my kids access to reading material!)
