Schlinder's List

I haven't made it all the way through the movie yet (I had to take a break when the DVD asked to be "flipped" - it was just too emotional). But for those who have seen it in school or show it in school - is there a version that is "school friendly?"

So far it's very graphic, lots of use of bad language and lots of full-frontal nudity. I was thinking about watching it with my DD but I'm not sure I'd want her to see the version I'm watching.

:confused3

I believe there is a "school version," but I wouldn't know how to get a copy of that.

When it was shown on TV, the only part that was edited out was the sex scene between Oskar Schindler and his wife. Everything else made it onto TV. So the school version may be similar.

ETA: I found this online re: the school version.

"This was sent out free to every school - I think it came from the Holocaust Educational Trust so it might be worth asking them. Their website is here: http://www.het.org.uk/ "

I remember watching it in H.S. and crying a lot but I'm watching it right now on HBO and am so very disturbed and upset. I "understood" what was going on in the movie but not like I do now, as an adult, with children.

I would love to change the channel but I can't....I need to watch the whole movie.

I'm going to be a mess in about 1 min :guilty:

Anyone else watching it?
Join me....
Saw it in the cinema when I was in college and I vividly remember walking out with a crowd of silent moviegoers. I happened upon it last night and started watching again.....had to turn it off before they were even out of the ghetto. Too overwhelming.
One book "Night" really disturbed me. .
A phenomenally powerful book. I read it in a day I think.

Anyone see "Life is Beautiful?" I was a wreck after that movie. I was so angry that humans could ever be what they were ...

I love that movie. Heartbreaking for sure, but I loved the spirit of the father (Roberto Benigni), and his love for his wife and son.

DH and I saw it in the theater. I didn't cry, but I was so overwhelmed I could only watch in shock. The ending with the actors and the actual people putting stones on Schindler's grave was very moving. When it was over, the entire theater silently walked out, and was silent even outside the theater. DH and I didn't talk until we were in the car, and even then, it felt like talking in a funeral.

It's interesting to me that so many posters mentioned that they didn't study the Holocaust or most of 20th century history in high school. Is it because time ran out of the school year? We usually made it through WW2 although one year we actually made it to the Vietnam War.

I watched it a few months ago in Global Connections for school. Sometimes I'd look at the people around me to see their reactions. Most of them were stone-faced. Halfway through the movie I heard someone in the back crying, though. It was a good movie, but I had to close my eyes through most of it. I hated the random shootings. I didn't watch the hanging part because I'm terrified of hangings.

And as just as horrific the atrocities were - how amazing what ONE man was capable of doing to save almost 1200 people.

Would you or I have that strength?
