Getting close to booking FP+, my question is, do I need to go about it like the last time where I would get fast passes for mid morning and still be able to ride the main rides in regular lines if we are there at rope drop? For ex could we still go to TSM at rope drop an get on without FP+ and save he FP for midmorning so we could ride twice?

Yes. We just returned. That's what we did. We scurried to TSM and rode standby with short wait. We then had a FP+ for early afternoon. That strategy should work just fine.

You may want to schedule your three FP+ for early to burn through them to have opportunity for a 4th, 5th...Not that you will be able to get another TSM, even in value season. But, rather the trend (in all parks) is that the second tier rides are having longer standby times due to the new system. For example, at MK (last sunday), IASW had a 20 min standby wait. We were able to go to the kiosk and get a FP that was good in 15 min and reduce our wait to 5 min.

Strangely, I noticed shorter SB waits at Space, Splash and Big Thunder- than usual and than some of the second tier rides-in the late morning. Maybe b/c everybody had FP+ for those. Standby times for those 3 were posted at 20min or less with actual waits of less than 10 min.

My october trip was considered "moderate" or "value plus" type crowds and your strategy worked perfect for us. At park opening, we rode with minimal waits, sometimes duplicating rides, then used Fastpasses at 10:30 and later. I noticed that when we used most of our Fastpasses, standby lines were long by then, so we felt it was good timing for our FPs. I.e. It was saving us wait time and not "wasted" on a ride that had a short wait anyway.

In my case, though, I didn't get extra FPs because sometimes the kiosks themselves had a line and we always had more we wanted to do that had acceptable waits to us (25 min or less)
