what does “ashore” at 7 mean? Earliest you can get off the ship (barring any delays)? We’ll disembark in Civitavecchia (Rome port) and need to drive one hour (private transfer on a Saturday) to the airport. Is a 11:35 am flight too early? We don’t have any other options that wouldn’t have an overnight layover somewhere and DH really wants to get home Saturday. But, I don’t want to miss our flight if we encounter delays... We are fine with early walk off w/ our bags.

The earliest walk-off guests should be able to debark at 7 or soon after. Disney does not recommend flights before noon out of Rome, but you are close to that. I would want to be very sure of the reliability of the private transfer company. Do they have good reviews?

It's recommended that you arrive at the airport 3 hours before an international flight. So personally, there is no way I would feel comfortable with that tight of a time frame. If you miss your flight, you will have to book a new one at a VERY expensive rate unless your insurance specifically covers it (most do not cover being late because you didn't allow yourself enough time). Now, I have never cruised before (yet!) so I can't speak to how quickly you can get off the ship and be on your way.

While 7 am is ashore time that doesn’t necessarily mean you actually get off then. Lots of factors can delay the time you actually leave. And Remember you have to go through passport control st the port which takes some time. If you were lucky to get in the car by 745 you would get to the airport around 845 barring traffic issues. And there is a lot of traffic around Rome even on weekends. Then there is the check in line for bags. If you don’t have airline status and are flying coach that line can be very time consuming, then there is passport control and finally a rather long walk to gates. Ive been to the Rome airport a few times. It’s big, crowded and Confusing. Personally I’m a nut about getting to the airport with plenty of time, so I wouldn’t do it. My husband has finally come to understand it’s much easier for him Just to let me do what I want about airport arrival than argue, it’s tsken 36 years but we have forged a consensus that we can work with,

We are possibly on the same cruise. We are disembarking in Civitavecchia and our flight is for 11:50am. A little later than yours but not by much.

Can you share what transportation you are using to get to the airport?

I haven't booked airfare yet, but I'd love to stick with AirCanada and its only nonstop departs at 11:30am.

We are using Disney transportation. Since our flight time is only 10 minutes from Disney's recommended time I figured it will be fine. Of course we will probably do express walk off the day we disembark.

Just a heads up. We usually just grab a cab when we get off a cruise -- most port cities have taxis readily available. Not so in Civitavecchia. When we disembarked at Civitavecchia last fall, our travel agent had arranged for a private car to take us to our hotel for one last day in Rome. Other passengers who hadn't pre-booked some sort of transportation were really scrambling to find a way into the city. I felt bad for them. Our driver (sorry, don't remember his name) was great, and he asked how we were going to get to the airport early(!) the next morning. We hadn't made arrangements for that, so he offered to come back and get us. Worked out great!

If we were on a DCL cruise we would've taken the transfer bus to the airport.

According to https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/guest-services/ground-transportation/ they recommend 11:30 for one sailing and 12 for the next one. Personally I would go with the 11:35 flight as I hate waiting around the airport.
