Scary Stories, in the Halloween Spirit

Love the story! You're a great writer. The part where the triangle came off the board gave me the chills. I hope you plan on writing more!

Thank you very much. I hope to come up with something worth writing about every once in a while and post it here - I'm fairly new to the boards, so this is a nice welcome, especially for my first post on Community board.

I really enjoyed your story, and as others have said, your writing. As a teen or even young adult I would have tried summoning spirits on a Ouija board but I definitely would not now, I agree that some doors should not be opened. I am and always have been equally fascinated/frightened by ghosts and the supernatural. I would definitely enjoy reading more scary stories, fact or fiction, in honor of Halloween.
Thanks for this thread.

And thank you. I hope to see some more scary stories too this month! But you won't get any more new ouija stories from me!

Thanks for taking the time and effort to give us all a good ghost story! I really enjoyed reading it and appreciate your writing style. :thumbsup2

Thank you kindly...the compliments make it worth the time and effort. :)

Loved the story!

I firmly believe that people who love us don't "leave" us after they die. They are around...

DFIL & DMIL both died in 2001...in March & December respectively. In early December 2002, I was taking some brush and yard waste to the transfer station in town. It had a big 3 sided concrete '"box", for lack of a better word, for yard waste. Well, the morning I got there, the entire concrete box was empty save for a gardenia, sitting right in the middle of it. Now, this was right around when DMIL died, and gardenia was her favorite plant. So I just "knew" that she had sent it to me. So I brought it home. DH thought I was nuts, said that it would die since it had been out in the cold, I tol d him it wouldn't because it was from DMIL. I put it up in the window in the spare room which was nice and sunny and warm, and it flurished. I kept it all through the winter and spring, no flowers, but beautiful shiny green leaves. It seemed very happy there. Amazingly enough, it bloomed in May 2003...on Mother's Day.

Another story from when I was much younger. I was at a party at a friend's house who lived a few towns over in what was a fairly rural area. I was about 19 or so. Well, I had too much to drink...stupid, I know. So it's time to go and I am driving along when all of a sudden I heard someone yell "stop", excpet there was no one in the car with me and I heard it inside my head, if you know what I mean, so I stopped. Well, as my eyes focused a bit and I got used to the dark around me and could see, I realized that I had stopped on a curve, which I didn't realize was a curve. Where I had stopped was immediately before where I would have gone flying off the road and into a small creek. I would have gone flying off the road there because I didn't know the road curved, so the road would have been curving while I was going straight. I don't know what (or who) told me to "stop" in my head, but had I not, I'd have been injured as my car flew off the road.

As a nurse, I was caring for a very ill elderly woman one night. She had been unresponsive for several days, we were providing comfort measures only. I went into her room at about 2:00AM and she was sitting up in bed, eyes wide open, looking past me and saying "Oh thank God you've finally come for me". Again, I was young, it scared the bejesus out of me. I made sure she was safe, siderails up, sort of heled her lie back down, fixed her pillows and so forth. I checked on her a while later and she was gone.

Another work one from years ago....caring for a woman whose husband had died on our unit about 2 months prior to her own admission to my floor. Myself and another nurse were "settling" her for the night...making sure she was clean, a little back rub, fix the pillows and so forth when the lights in the room started to blink and the woman looked up and said "Oh Victor, you're here". Victor was her late husband who had passed away on our unit a couple of months prior. Kind of scared the other nurse and I (we were young), the patient was all set so we left. When I checked her again a while later, she was gone too.

What a story.

Thanks! That was fun. I was thinking about scary stories the other day, specifically those Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books. I always used to get the most scared by the "funny" stories and the cover illustrations. Ew, shuddered right now.:scared:

I loved your story and have no trouble at all believing all of it.
I grew up in the church and have seen many miracles, such as my Uncle at age 17 was healed of cancer and walked right out of the hospital. But I'm older now, and had never believed in the dark side, such as ghosts, etc. But about 5 yrs. ago, my younger sister called me all weirded out about balls of light in her photos whenever my young neice's picture is taken. I assured her it was just bad film, until she showed it to me. Since then we've sent the film to experts even in Canada, and it is very real. The balls of light continue to appear, even one they saw with their eyes, not on film. My neice seems to be "special".?? My sister would walk my little neice through the toy section of K-mart and things would fall off the upper shelves. At first they blamed the store for not stacking things well, but after awhile, it became common place and they just learned to move out of the way fast. I'm laughing :lmao: because it's so silly, but true still, and continues to this day off and on.
When my neice turned 10 yrs. old, she got up early one morning, everyone else in the house still asleep. She sleepily reached for the cereal box on the top shelf of the kitchen cabinet. As she turned around, looking into the living room, she saw a big man. She said he did not scare her at all, but lifted his large hand up, as if to signal "Hi". She was watching his hand, and before she could really gaze on his face, he kind of evaporated. My neice never knew my Grandpa, because he died before she was born. But my Grandpa was a happy man, large with large hands and always instead of waving, he'd lift his hand upward and just hold it there.
My sister's whole family has weird things going on all the time, ever since we noticed the balls of light in the photos. We found out later the balls are called "orbs." The neice is 15 now, and the orbs still appear in most pictures when she's in the photo. I sure don't ever have orbs in my photos, but only when she happens to get in the shot. They show up on everybody's cameras, so we really don't pay too much attention to it anymore, just laugh a bit. :confused3
My sister has gobs more ghosty stories. Something's going on over there all the time. Nothing dangerous, like the fire from Daniel, thank God. Most things at my sister's are just odd or even funny sometimes and a bit spooky.
I'm so glad, to this day, I've seen nothing weird, except on T.V.!! But I do look at "Haunted Mansion" totally different when I ride it at Disney. Somehow it isn't quite as much fun anymore. I liked it better when I thought it was all just fantasy.

Great story!!!

I was afraid to scroll down and read what was at the window!!!

Zackie, great story! :thumbsup2 I too love writing and have been told that I have a great talent for it , but I just don't have the time right now to devote the time and effort. Your story deserves to be published!

I sort of have a story of my own; although it's not scary, it does have to do with "someone watching over me"...

In March of 2003, I set out from my house to do a bit of shopping in a border town 1.5 hours away from me. March in my part of Canada is very unpredictable; it can be storming one day and sunny the next. I had planned this shopping trip for the day before, but sure enough a storm came up so I waited until the next day to see what the weather would be like. It was nice and sunny, so I packed the car up and left.

Now, the drive to this border town entails a drive on the highway, and what I had not considered was that the snow that had fallen the day before was being melted into pools of water by the sun shining in the sky at the present moment. I was stuck behind a transport truck that was spraying a slush/water combo onto my windshield, so I had two choices: 1)Pass the truck, or 2)Go 40mph on the highway to stay far enough back so that I can see well enough to drive.

I chose 1) and pulled out to pass, going about 70 mph. Going around a bend in the road, my tires caught a puddle of melted snow and I could feel the car spinning. What happened in the next few seconds is a bit of a blur, but I distinctly remember thinking that I was going to die. I remember hearing crunches like the sound of breaking glass, and a "thump" as the hood of the car hit the ground. The car eventually came to a stop, wheels down, in the ditch beside the highway, facing the opposite direction that I had been driving. I had enough sense to turn off the ignition, and I sat there thinking "WHAT am I going to do now?". I tried to open the car door but because I had landed in a ditch filled with snow, my door wouldn't open because of the snow pushing against it. At the time I didn't have a cell phone, but I had borrowed my mother's because I was going to be driving on the highway, alone, in the winter. I had the phone in my hand, ready to dial 911, when two truckers showed up. One held my head and neck in case I was injured, and the other one called the ambulance.

At the hospital, they checked me over and I was fine. No scratches, bruises, cuts, or injuries AT ALL. I didn't know until later, but the car was the same way; even though I had done a 180, flipped twice (therefore landing on the roof twice), and landed in a ditch, the only thing broken on the car were the two rear view mirrors that were taken completely off. The front and back windshields and the headlights were fine; no broken glass at all. I still wonder who was looking out for me that day, especially because I passed a transport truck; they take a long time to stop, and if I had stalled in the middle of the road...but all is good, and I'm here to enjoy yet another Halloween season filled with spirits, witches and scary stories!:wizard:

Wow, Starrzone, that was a pretty scary story, as far as I'm concerned! I would venture to say you had someone praying for you, and that is what kept you safe. Especially since you heard the crunches. Amazing story. I'd say you definitely experienced a miracle there.
Glad we visited Ottawa, Montreal, & Quebec City in July.
But the big question??? Did you still go shopping?

Great story and you are a wonderful writer.

I am not so much a great writer, but I have had a few experiences with things I cannot explain.

It all started with a Ghost Tour I gave to my husband - (then boyfriend) about 3 1/2 years ago. If you look up the top 10 haunted places in America, The Spaghetti Warehouse in Houston is normally on there. It is a restaurant and that is where the tour started. We went to a few places around town and while they were all spooky - I didnt seem to think any of them were haunted.

Then we went to the last place on the tour. The Jefferson Davis Building. And this place was creepy. It is said to be haunted by Civil War Soliders and ghosts of the mentally ill that died here when it was a hospital. Matthew and I got seperated from all of the tour group, except for the tour guide. We were able to go inside this building and were looking for the others in our group. We heard voices and foot steps all around us in this building, but no one was there. We got goosebumps, but laughed it off. We went outside and both Matthew and I stopped and both had a weird feeling. We looked at each other, with hair standing up on our necks and both looked up and said something is there. Matthew snapped a picture and this is what came out.

Picture242.jpg

Different colored orbs everywhere. And there no light at all where we were outside. Just incase you are thinking it was lights somehow.

Anyway, that was freaky, but not enough to make me believe too much.

Later than evening, after I get home and was in my room - I was living at my parents house at this time - I go to bed and around 2am, someone knocks on my bedroom door. I thought it was weird, but said - Come in! Thinking it was my mom. No one came in and I just tried to go back to sleep. A few seconds later - someone knocked again. I was a little aggravated by this point and I yelled - COME IN!!! Still nothing, so I get up and open the door and I am sure you guessed it by now. No one was there. My mom and dad were asleep in their room. So needless to say, I was a little freaked out now.

I asked my mom the next morning if it was her knocking and she said it was not. They were both sleeping.

Later that afternoon, I was at Matthew's house when I get a phone call. IUt was my mom and she sounded a little scared. She said something weird had just happened and she didnt really understand it. She had a Travel Agency down the road from their house and she came home during the day to let the dogs outside to use the restroom. She pulled up to the garage, but didnt pull in. She went in the house through the garage, let the dogs out and had to go grab something from her car. When she walked back out to the garage - not 2 minutes later - there was a piece of furniture that had been by the door you use to get in the house, moved completely to the other side of the garage - blocking the garage door. There were boxes and other things on top of the table that was moved, that was still there even though it had been moved.

To this day, we have no idea how that happened. My mom blames me for going on the ghost tour and bringing something home with me.

Things havent let up since then. We just recently moved and nothing seems to have followed us here! ;) Maybe it will stay that way!

But the big question??? Did you still go shopping?
Pomcoach:teacher:

Nope, no shopping for me that day! I had to call a neighbor to drive me home, and then I took care of the insurance stuff; it's funny, because we think of insurance agents as cold-hearted people who want and take our money. However, the FIRST thing the lady I talked to said, once she heard the details of the accident, was "Wow...are you OK?". I've never forgotten that! Oh, and later that year I went on a trip to Europe, and did more than enough shopping to make up for the missed opportunity;)

Jenvenza; I have had a few experiences with things I cannot explain. Later than evening said:
Hi Jenvenza, (Hope I did the quote thing right, not sure how it works.)

When my younger sister was in her first years of marriage, she had 2 babies and lived in a little old rental house. She told me it was haunted. Of course I thought she was just scared, until she told me the rest of the story. Her husband thought he was John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever and would blow-dry his hair and then go dancing :cool1: all night, leaving my sis home to care for the babies.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
So the next day, she'd finally lie down for a rest and hear him come bounding up the steps into her room. She'd ask, "Why are you home from work so early?" No answer. She roll over to look and nobody was there. His car was not there either. Then she'd drift off to sleep again and the same footsteps on the stairs and coming to stand by the bed, but nobody there again! Finally she got so tired of it, she thought, "Well, I'll move the babies into the attic bedroom and move myself downstairs. The babies won't care if there's footsteps.

So the next day, she hears a bunch of dragging and horrible noise up in the attic bedroom, where the babies new room is. Babies were with her having lunch down in the kitchen. She runs upstairs, looks in and sees all the furniture in the middle of the room, 2 dressers turned upside down, drawers out and clothes scattered everywhere! I said, "Wow, were you scared to death?" She said, "No, I was burning mad, because I knew I'd have to clean it up!" Sounds kind of similar to your story, don't you think? My sis was sure glad to move out of there!

Sounds a lot like it, just your sister had a lot more furniture moved. I have no idea if more would have been moved if she would have been in there longer or what. But it was just one table. Creepy!!

Wow some scary stories on here. Check out the Ghosthunter's thread there are tons of personal experiences that we have posted.

Haven't posted this on the GH thread yet, but this was from when we were in Savannah. We were eating at The Pirate House which is supposed to be very haunted. The table we were at was right by a window that looks into the other room and all while we were eating I kept looking over my shoulder at the window. So we were making jokes about ghosts and one of the waitresses says, "well that window is where a lot of people have experienced things. People will take pictures of it and when the pictures are developed they see faces in the window." Ok, I get up and snap a few pictures with no flash. Look at my screen and see nothing, so I figure no shosts for me. My sister goes to take a picture and I move my chair so I am almost under the window all the way. I put my arm out like it was around a person..and jokingly said "I'm sitting here with my ghostie friend" I really wanted to see or feel something. Anyhow this is the window and the panes marked were right above my head. Tellme if you see anything.

Thanks Anne. Hope you got to finish it.

Don't know how many folks like scary Halloween stories, but I love them. I'm not a sucker either - I just enjoy the whole ghoulish yet fun atmosphere. Plus, I am an avid writer and storyteller to begin with.

Just wanted to share one with the boards, and hopefully hear some others.

PLEASE don't be insulted your story was fantastic but I have to ask did it really happen? You are a fantastic writer. I know you said it did but it is just mind numbingly frightening. Can you somehow turin it into a script. The tag line based on a true story would sell it big time.

You had a lot of creative energy in the room and I wonder if the entity fed off of it. If you look at Ghost Hunters or even the many experiences on the Ghost Hunter's thread we have on the DIS none of them come close to yours. Creative people's brains are wired differntly than the average person.

In one respect I want you to tell me it is a true story and not a work of fiction on the other hand if it is true:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

YEs I do and it ain't pretty. :scared1: Do you think we are Matrixing? Do you hve the photos you took before so we can compare?

The only other picture I have cuts off at the frame right below that one so it's not going to be a good comparison, plus it was taken without the flash. I know it can be tricks of light and stuff but it really gave me the willies when I saw it.

I'm going to see if there are any others in either my sisters or mine.

edited: I looked through all the shots and no other pictures show that pane of glass they all cut off right below it. It's possible we are matrixing, I mean I was taking pictures with the hope that something would show up. But I have to say with this picture when I was just glancing through my sisters photos I wasn't staring and trying to find anything or make out any shapes or anything, and when I saw that my heart literally skipped a beat. I wish I felt comfortable showing myself on-line so I could post the full picture. Maybe I should post it without the closeup and red lines on it and let people draw their own conclusions.

Can't you just fuzz out your face somehow? Then you can show it an not have to worry about showing your face. I know my son is able to wipe things out with Paintshop.
