Scary, Sad, and just plain DISGUSTING!

My key at WDW quit working and I had to go get a new one. I didn't have my purse and they didn't ID me. They saw I had a key and it wasn't working, so they just gave me another one.

THis guy also had a key, it wasn't like he just wandered in and they gave him one. Yes they should have checked iD, but like I said WDW didn't check mine either.

The whole things sounds weird to me, I know darn well that the parents would have heard him kicking in the door. I know things that happen in the hall 3 doors down will wake me up. I think there is more to the story. I do fell terrible for the girls and I in no way am condoning what he did. But things just don't add up for me.

I am confused. I assume I just missed something in the article.

The guy had already checked in at the hotel before getting drunk, correct? He came back to the hotel and tried his room key but it didn't work. He went to the front desk and asked for a new key and the clerk gave him one without checking his ID.

How did he end up with the room key to this particular room? In his drunken stupor, did he tell the front desk clerk the wrong room number? It seems from the article that the key worked. It opened the door but the door was chained so he kicked it in.

I can't believe rooms at the Ritz don't have deadbolts. He never would have been able to kick in a deadbolt.

I have to say that I do not think this guy is "the worst of the worst" when it comes to child molesters. I am not saying he shouldn't spend a long time in prison, I think this is a case of a series of unfortunate events - too much alcohol and a stupid front desk clerk. Again, he needs to pay the piper.

This was a guy that drank too much and whether that caused him to crash a car, shoot someone, rape a child or jump off a bridge, it is all on him. I just don't think we can put him up there with a true child sexual predator unless he has done this before.

I am betting there is more to this story....the child makes NO sound at a strange man in her room/bed? the other kids didn't make a noise? The parents chose not to check out the noise? That could have prevented EVERYTHING right there. even rooms that aren't adjoining and are next to each other you can hear pretty much everything.

I didn't read the other link, but as the statute link I posted shows, the issue is the victim's age. The law was written that way to allow for especially severe penalties for ANY sexual contact with a pre-teen child, even if the situation is consensual.

Honestly, I hate that they use this particular term for this purpose, because it always makes any molestation situation sound that much more awful, and it is the victim that often suffers for that. It gets people's nasty curiousity up, and kids are hounded if anyone manages to identify them, which happens all too often in molestation cases.

Right, I think everyone is screaming "monster" because they read that this man "sodomized" a little girl. When he may have drunkenly climbed into bed and touched her breast.

Actually, a similar situation happened to a teacher in my area. Several years ago he was at a cabin with his fiance's family. He was intoxicated and went into the wrong bedroom and snuggled up with who he thought was his fiance but was actually her younger sister. He was mortified and apologized to the girl and family. Everyone felt that it was an innocent mistake because they are now married and have a child. Recently, somehow the sister mentioned the incident to someone and it was reported to the authorities. The teacher was suspended and is facing child molestation charges even though the "child" (now an adult) and family do not feel that any wrong was committed.

(I'm not defending the guy in the original story, I'm just saying agreeing that the use of terms like "sodomy" for any contact with a minor may cause unnecessary issues for both the perpetrator and victim.)

I think you are correct...I made that leap.
Frankly I find all of the circumstances surrounding this case to be very odd.
I do feel really bad for the girl, she is very much a victim.

The reason his key didn't work was because he was trying it in the wrong door (in this case the room the girl was staying in). He went down and reported his key was not working (gave the wrong room #) and they gave him a key to the the girl and her families room. He thought this was his room.

I have stayed at WDW when my key didn't work. They just asked for my room number and gave me another key.

This story definitely it confusing. It was like the Perfect Storm. So much went wrong. I would think he could tell the difference between a 9 year old and a grown woman even drunk. The parents not checking when they heard the sound. Hello...he kicked the door in! The 14 year olds not hearing anything. The 9 year old not screaming but walking into her parents room later?? The hotel just giving the man the key. This man getting so inibriated he had no idea where the heck he was???

I will also add from a personal anecdote that those card keys aren't necessarily as secure/unique as you'd think. A couple of years ago I stayed at a hotel outside of Detroit. I couldn't quite make out the room number that the desk clerk had written on the outside of the card sleeve. I guessed and tried the card in the door of the room I thought was ours. It worked (repeatedly), so I assumed that I'd guessed correctly. The room was empty, so we moved in. However, to our surprise several hours later another family tried to move into "our" room. We went down to the front desk together and found out that we were in the wrong room... even though both of our keys worked repeatedly in the wrong door. The front desk re-assigned the other family to room we were supposed to be in initially and we stayed put... and they gave everyone new keys. But I learned that you can't always rely on the card key to keep other people out.

Wow, you guys are scaring the **** out of me!!! :scared1:

I hate traveling alone, and I am vigilant about security, but I will definitely be packing some door stops.

I am glad that the PP gave us the link for with the legal definitions. I think it is completely plausible this guy fell into bed, spooned and groped the girl and passed out. That is a totally different scenario than what the average person envisions when the word sodomy is used.

Tzolkin, you story is just tragic! That poor guy…

I have never seen the word "sodomy" used more times in my life.

Sodomy sodomy sodomy.
