Scary Day...Not Sure What is Wrong...

Nicole...I hope you feel better soon.

I think what Jen said makes a lot of sense. A lot of the big box stores or drug stores have blood pressure machines that are very accurrate. Going over to one of them to check your pressure is a good idea.

Hang in there babe. Remember - not all of us medical personnel are scary!

I wouldn't wait to long to get checked out. The sooner you get things fixed the better life will be!

It sounds a bit like panic/anxiety attacks. When I have had these I go really clammy and my vision goes abit followed by being light headed.

Are you a bit stressed out at the moment ?

Feel better soon

Yeah, when I panic my eyes get a bit blurry too, but this seems like a whole new level!

Go see your GP, better safe than sorry! Get Well soon!

Don't take this as a diagnosis, only that no matter what you should see a doctor to be checked out. It can be any number of things.

In my case it was sort of related to a drop in blood pressure.

As a kid, sometimes (and only sometimes) after a vigorous workout, or even just getting up quickly, I would what I would describe as "grey out". My vision sort of disappeared - instead all I basically would see was something between static and a grey/brown plaid. It usually only lasted a few seconds, during which I'd also feel light headed and a bit nauseous. After exercising if it occured, it might result in a short episode of vomiting. But it never lasted long, and I'd be perfectly fine. Never really thought anything was "wrong". Of course, my dad would get mad at me because it seemed like I was trying to get out of exercise. My varsity soccer coach would also think the same.

After graduating college, I went to a gym with a buddy to work out. I did a strong workout on an excercise bike that had a pulse monitor. Towards the end it said my pulse jumped to 270. I figured it was wrong - it was just a cheap thing. But when I finished, I got up, walked away, and then had to grab on to a railing to keep from collapsing on the floor. The grey out happened again. After a few minutes it went away, except for the nausea which lasted a lot longer this time.

So I went to see a doctor. My new primary doctor was in fact a cardiologist in general, so he liked to get a "baseline" ECG for his patients. My baseline was anything but normal. From just a 5 second ECG, he could see something unusual. So I went back to do a stress test. Before I even started the stress test, they saw a spontaneous significant increase in heart rate. I was showing signs of tachycardia and was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson White Syndrome. I was referred to one of the top cardiologists at the Brigham in Boston, and it was determined that my situation was pretty serious - there was a possibility of spontaneous cardiac arrest. WPW is also something that can be more symptomatic and serious as you get older.

To put it simply, I had a short circuit in my heart. When your heart beats normally, an electrical charge starts at a node at the top of your heart and travels downward via a bundle of fibers. At the top, it causes the atriums of the heart to contract, pushing blood into the ventricles. It generally takes a certain amount of time to get to the lower heart, when it causes the ventricles to contract, pushing the blood out of the heart while the atriums fill again. The two steps give the pumping action.

In my case, there was another pathway the electrical charge could take. It didn't always, but in stressful situations it was more likely. It also passed through faster. In those situations, the ventricles would contract too soon, before the blood had completely passed from the atriums - and effectively not pump the blood efficiently.

Fortunately, I've been treated and I am symptom free for almost 20 years now. The treatment was "experimental" at the time but is now routine.

And it was the same thing that cause Meat Loaf to pass out on stage one time, so he and I have something in common :)

Wow, I spent way too long typing that out...but like I said, don't treat it as nothing, because it might not be. It's probably nothing serious, but its something to be looked at.

Glad it is better :goodvibes :grouphug: but still get checked.

A couple weeks ago I got a eye exam, and they dialated me eyes as they do every 5 yrs. After the appt, I went to bed since I work nights and was bed time for me. When I woke, I had streaming lights in my eyes, open or closed they were there, no pain, no headache. I took advil and went to bed again. Woke up and was fine. I had this happen once before and laying down in the dark took it away. Optical migrane sound like what I had. I was lucky.

I wouldn't mess with my health, or my eyes if I were you, I would get it checked. Our bodies are amazing, our brains, heart all have a lot that can happen and seem like nothing big. Don't play, see a DR. That is my 2 cents.

Hey Nikki, I just wanted to wish you well. This sounds kind of scary. Hope all is well.

Hi everybody,

I was able to make an appointment for tomorrow at 4:30. I'm nervous that they're going to want to do bloodwork right then and there. The intense phobia I have of getting that done is not helping matters. I did not feel well for part of the day today. Just before lunch i got sweaty and woozy again, but didn't get the eye issue. I have a headache now and am tired. Everybody says I look pale too. I can't wait for this to go away. I'm miserable and just want to know what's wrong with me.

I am glad you are getting in. It does sound like all of the suggestions could apply so better for an "official opinion". My sister goes throught the bloodwork phobia too - and she has to go often. Find your happy place as best you can to get through that if/when it comes. :grouphug:

It really does sound like the migraines. I've had them since my kids were born. It is very hormonal for me, but there are other triggers. I can't drink diet drinks unless they have splenda or they KILL me. My mom always had the ocular migraines with no pain and my brother gets both like I do, so ask your family.
Be sure to let us know what you find out. And tell them to let you lie down before they take blood. It always helps me. Good luck! :goodvibes

I am glad that you have an appointment!!! None of us here can diagnose you. Make sure you are honest with your doc and let him or her know all about the symtoms you are having no matter how small!! Wishing you the best!:wizard:

Good for getting into the DR's! Let us know how it goes. Relax, deep breaths when they take your blood! ;)

Hey, am at the doc's now and shaking like a leaf. I feel like such a baby. I can't wait to get outta here!!!

So, today was a very weird day for me. After lunch, I had one of my classes and started to not feel well. I felt sweaty/clamy and started having issues with my eyes. I didn't see spots or stars, but saw a spikey hologram-like design that curved into a circle. It increasingly got worse until it was making it difficult to see. I then started feeling slightly lightheaded. I sat down for a bit and after about 15 minutes, it started to go away and I felt better. I felt tired, but soon perked up and started to feel like I had more energy. On the way home, I started feeling tired again.

I am not sure what is wrong with me, but the fact that it was difficult to see and I felt this way scared me. Something very similar happened after riding on the school bus to a field trip in December. I also had an experience like this last May when school was winding down as it is now.

Anybody have experience with something like this? Is it blood pressure issues? heart? other?:confused3:guilty:

What you described is exactly what I have occasionally had-it's an optical migraine. I freaked out so badly that I had my DH drive me to the emergency room and the nurses were very sympathetic, they said they'll have docs and nurses have the same thing happen to them and they'll come in because it scares them so much.

Mine are never accompanied by an actual migraine ( I don't get migraines) and I had my first one in my mid 30's. I get them about 1x a year, no associative symptoms (Ie pms, etc). Just find a place to sit down, take some deep calming breaths, and know that it will pass in 10-15 minutes.

You probably started feeling tired again later because you probably had a MONSTER adrenaline spike from the fear, and that will burn through all of your energy reserves very quickly.

I read online that it could be related to hormones or blood pressure issues. Did anybody find this with their migraines? I've beengwtting the sweats and shaky around lunch time for the past few days and then it goes away after lunch. It was like this before the episode the other day. Ideas?

Stop asking us! Ask the Doc! (And I don't mean me, a real Doc :) ) You're there!

Hope everything is going well!

I actually regret posting earlier, because it was just another thing to get antsy about...I was meaning only to emphasize the need to consult a professional and not rely on "Well, it went away," or "The Internet said...", etc.

There are many, many causes of symptoms. Symptoms are only part of the story. You could find out that you just have a virus that will go away on its own.
