Scariness of sci fi dine in

Hi there. I have just booked a ressie for the sci fi dine in. Problem is we have a 4, 6 and 8 year old in our party. Are the movies shown suitable for these ages? Are the movies more toungue-in-cheek, Simpsons like?:confused3 I will point out that the 4 year old is mine and is quite sensitive, and the 6 and 8 year old are also very sensitive with a mother who is paranoid about suitability!

I know my son is not really at the age where he can look at something and think "ha ha, what dreadful special effects, don't believe that at all"!! He is not really a child that is laid back about things going on around him - he takes everything in and thinks about it all.

On the other hand if it is really very obvious that it is a joke (Simpsons like), we would love to go.

Thanks

My kids were 4 when we went and were not scared at all(terrified of Tough to be a Bug)
the movies are old B movies -like attack of the killer tomatoes

Very funny SimonsMom - I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

My DH is the king of those movies and my kids have seen most and have never been scared - even when really young. A LOT of it is in how the parent is reacting. If they see you laughing they are more likely to react similarly - whereas if you are nervous or upset they are going to be also.

It really is not scary and there are so many people in there talking and people walking around and such like in a normal restaurant that I doubt they will ever even "watch" the movie at all. They may give it a glance or two, but not long enough to scare and the movies are pretty stupid. My kids were 7 and 3 when we went and they were more interested in the people and the food (which by the way is nothing great). We won't be going back

My kids were 8 and 10 when we went, and they laughed at all the clips. They are pretty sheltered, and we didn't even slow down at It's Tough to be a Bug last trip (our 1st trip this was a nightmare!). We don't do scary much at all-but they thought the clips at SciFi were cheesy.

I'll echo the previous posters...cheesy clips, not particularly "scary". My DS was 5 at the time (this past January) and didn't really pay much attention to the screen. He was too interested in the other cars and the waitress on rollerskates. (Hostess? IDK..all I know is he was mesmerized by the fact she was on rollerskates..LOL)

I'll be the voice for the opposing side. :rotfl:

DD really didn't like SciFi - she was definitely scared of the movies at first. She did warm up later, but it was initially difficult to get her to sit still as she was trying to hide. I think the combination of the darkness and the (maybe to her?!) "scary" movies were too much and she was on overload.

Anyways, good luck and I hope your little ones enjoy it!

I wouldn't give it another thought. It is not scary at all. DS4 was not scared, and barely even noticed the movies. Yes it is dark, but not pitch black. Picture a dimmer switch turned down low. It's not movie theater dark, KWIM? Go, the kids will love sitting in a "car" to eat! :thumbsup2

I never even thought about it until seeing your post, we took DD 8 and DS 2 last year and I don't think that they even noticed the movies. they were too interested in everything else going on & the fact they were sitting in a car.... and getting milkshakes!

I will share our experience. We took 7 and 4 year old girls to Sci Fi last year. The 7 year old was great at first and then got quieter and quieter. She stopped eating and seemed close to tears. We quickly figured out that she was freaked out by the clips! We tried to sit to block her view but she couldn't stop herself from watching! The 4-year old totally ignored the whole thing. We ended up having one of us take her out of the restaurant.

This is a kid who isn't afraid of anything! I would have never predicted her reaction.

I hate that for you. Until I read your post I was going to say that on a SCARINESS SCALE of 1 to 10, it was a 1. Maybe my kids were too busy playing with the blinking ice cubes. :confused3:

I took daughters 4 and 9 to Sci-fi in 2006, they loved it! They didn't really pay attention to the movies, had more fun pretending they were diving us around! Brings back memories of my sister and I when we ate at Sci-fi as preteens! Planning on returning this year with a baby, 3, 7, 12x2 year olds, can't wait!!

WE went a couple of yrs ago when girls were almost1, 4 and 6 - had no problems, the clips are just a couple of minutes long, they are mostly old balck and white movies of giant bugs crawling around the city, aliens, or robots KWIM I think they even do a music montage thing with some too - they really didn't pay attention to them, and it isn't all that dark- I guess it depends on the kid if they get scared by stuff like that then that's a different story. GOod Luck!

Thanks everyone. Have discussed what you all said with my SIL and we are going for it. We think they should all be ok. To be honest, I think it was more about pleasing my SIL and convincing her to not worry about the kids, then the kids themselves!;)Everyone else in the party I dying to go and I've wanted to go for years!!
