Scared to bring my DSLR

I bought one of these for my Dslr. Works great, repels water, absorbs a little shock, funny looking, tho. I wore my camera around my neck on all the rides except Kali Rapids where I stuck it in my regular backpack in the Zing case and stuck the whole thing in the bin in the center of the ride. I used my p&s on that ride inside a plastic bag.

The other thing to remember is that these DSLRs are very rugged! Photographers bring DSLRs all the time to football / basketball games where they might get run over by another player. Photographers bring DSLRs on assignment all the time to natural disasters, local protests / riots, war zones, etc. Paparazzi bring their DSLRs and get pushed and shoved by celebrities, security guards, and themselves. Those DSLRs are built to take a beating!

Plus, you've seen all those other Disney guests walking around with DSLRs, too.

All the previous folks who replied are correct: you bought your DSLR for a reason...to take pictures, especially pictures of special moments. Sure, there's always a very small risk of breaking the camera. But the benefits of bringing your DSLR are soooooo much greater! Just take the usual care and precautions when carrying your DSLR.

I don't remember the exact figure, but it cost very little money to add the camera and lenses under my Homeowner's Insurance. If you are worried about it breaking under normal use, then insure it.

I am terrified to break it. I am not worried about carrying it at all. i did buy a new case that fits just the camera so I don't have to carry everything. There is no way I am carrying my big zoom lens. I just don't it bouncing around on the rides.

Just repeating what everyone else has said... why buy a DSLR if you're not going to take it to one of the most fun places to photograph?

Like others have said, DSLRs are pretty tough, even the entry-level ones. You're not likely to hurt it unless it has a pretty serious fall or collision. Even if you do - it could happen anywhere; wouldn't you rather have it die in its moment of glory at WDW rather than slipping out of your hand when you're getting out of your car and breaking on the garage floor? :)

:thumbsup2
If you keep putting your camera in an out of a bag all day you're eventually gonna get sick of it and the camera will spend more time in the bag rather than out. Wear the camera and USE it!

My camera comes out of the bag in the morning and doesn't go back in until I'm done shooting for the day. The same goes for lens caps.

Mine stays around my neck, except when on a ride that I am not trying to photograph, then it's in the bag.

Or, when I'm videotaping a parade or fireworks...

Get yourself a nice neoprene neck strap, the one that came with the camera will kill you.

WDW is no place for a DSLR. They are too big, too heavy, too expensive, and too fragile. Leave it at home and enjoy your trip. You'll have memories. You don't need fancy pictures.

LOL, says the guy that was once photographed looking like a walking camera store ;)

Ditto on the camera strap. My Canon one is still in the plastic wrapping. Go for a nice neoprene padded one. The ones that can soak up your sweat are even better :)

Took my D80 with me 2 weeks ago and brought it on nearly every ride. Even took shots all the way down the drop on Splash mountain. Ask Jeff (Gdad) both me and the camera got soaked on that ride. :lmao: He was right behind me...

My DSLRs have survived being on Indiana Jones at DL and Star Tours and survived an almost dunking at Pirates (never let them overload the boat... it just doesn't work well when you slide down that first waterfall...)

Take it...it's what you bought it for...to capture great memories.

This was taken of me at Mt. Rainier this past August. My month old Canon XSi with zoom lens is attached as shown to my fanny pack.

But this shot was taken after I fell about 30 feet down a rocky slope with my camera, zoom lens on! I tore my pants, scraped both elbows badly and broke my right ankle! AND yet the camera works fine today as well as the zoom lens!!!

Just got back from a week long disney vacation. The camera was always in my hand (wrist strap) or around my neck. I would definitely recommend a lens hood, as there were people that kept bumping into me. At night I also had a flash attached.

There were 1000's of people with DSLRs at Disney. I was definitely not the only one.

The one thing I regret not brining is a monopod. I had a tripod, but would have much preferred a monopod to bring on rides and for the parades.

If you do not have the cash to replace the camera if it breaks, definitely get insurance. Not that I want my camera to break, but I cannot worry about it and try to get good pictures at the same time.

I was two seats back- where it was dry. ;)

While this is true of professional level DSLRs, consumer level DSLRs are far more fragile. That's one of the main differences between a $5000.00 Pro camera and a $500.00 camera at Best Buy.

Amatuers do tend to protect their equipment more than a professional who can simply write off the replacement as a business expense.
