Scared of rollercoasters but loved Indiana Jones Adventure--what should I ride at WDW?

Hi everyone--

I am planning a first-time visit to Disney World. I have been to Disneyland once, and I'm trying to come up with a list of rides at Disney World that I can stomach.

Picking rides as an adult has been tough for me since I am afraid of rollercoasters, the fastest I've ever been on was about ~26 mph with some drops and it was too much for me. I tried out some less intense rides when I went to Disneyland, but I was really bored with the "put me in a vehicle & drift me past some animatronic scenes" rides like Jungle Cruise & Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin. I absolutely LOVED Indiana Jones though--it was fast & wild without giving me the unpleasant feelings of traditional rollercoasters--and would love to ride more rides like that at Disney World. I hear Dinosaur, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, & Expedition Everest are similar?

More info: I really liked Pirates & Peter Pan since there was a little more to the ride experience than just slowly drifting me past scenes Jungle Cruise-style. Was bored with Haunted Mansion, I liked Star Tours & Mad Tea Party.

Any WDW ride suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Definitely Dinosaur, since it's the same track/ride as IJA.

Big Thunder and Expedition Everest, though, are not similar to IJA and are quite different from each other.
They are, in fact, roller coasters, but BTMRR is very mild, particularly if you sit in the front. EE is a "real" coaster. Based on your description, I wouldn't recommend that you ride it unless you've tried other, gentler coasters to slowly build up a tolerance.

Seven Dwarfs is mild but fun like Big Thunder, although some people disagree. If Primeval Whirl ever reopens, it seems like you'd enjoy it. FoP and Soarin give you motion and thrills like Star Tours, without moving on a track.

Not scared but I have medical issues and need to avoid big rollercoasters. I did go on Big Thunder as it has swoops and turns vs drops but it may not be your thing.
Haunted Mansion is a great one (although you mention you didn't love it at DL).....Mild but so much to see. Peter pan is another. At Epcot Soarin and Spaceship Earth. Toy Story at Hollywood Studios.

I don't care for roller coasters but love Big Thunder, Mine Train, and Slinky Dog. They are all very mild and lots of fun, no big drops. Splash Mountain is fun if you want to try a slow ride with drops. I would avoid Everest. Definitely try Flight of Passage and Soarin- those are my favorites. I think the only ride comparable to Indiana Jones at WDW is Dinosaur.

I would recommend watching youtube videos of the rides so you can decide what you'd like to try.

I hate roller coasters
I did Big Thunder Mountain - screamed by head off
I did Splash Mountain - my DD told me very bump in the dark and then for the big drop I held my breath for 15 seconds, my head was down in my seat while my family had big smiles and hands up in the air.
Yes I am a big chicken when it comes to drops, swoops and dig dips.

Dinosaur is mostly bumping back and forth - mostly flat - not scary
Saoarin - once the rack is in place, it is fine

Slinky dog has some large dips - so it is a no go for me.

Do what you feel you would like
Check the rides that concern you on YouTube - you can visualize the drops and dips :)

I don't really like coasters, either. At WDW - the ONLY rides I don't love are TOT, RnR, EE, Primeval Whirl, SM, and Splash (but that's more about getting wet for me than the one drop). In terms of coasters, BTMRR, SDD, and 7DMT - are smaller coasters designed for families. If you find 7DMT is okay for you, then I might suggest SDD. And if SDD is okay - then I would suggest BTMRR. After that - I think the other coasters become "real coasters" - not everyone friendly ones. Barnstormer is the true kiddie intro coaster at WDW - but I think I like it LESS than 7DMT because you slide in the seat more - and the seats just designed for smaller people. Yes - even LARGE adults fit - but it's awkward. I feel "secure" in the seat in 7DMT and SDD - and that makes coasters better for me.

I hate roller coasters, but I ride SDMT and Big Thunder, although it’s been a while for that one. I always feel really nervous about SDMT, but I push myself to do it and then feel proud of myself😝 My H has learned to accept my limitations on rides and is working on our DD to be brave and ride with him instead. I do like all the “boring” rides, though, so I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything. I’m debating trying SDD on our upcoming trip. I do recommend watching ride videos beforehand. I find it helps to know what to expect.
