Scared about Days Suites Maingate East...

Hey all, a good friend just suggested this board to me, and you've all been SUCH A HELP!!

I recently booked a package (4 nights/4 PHP passes) at the Days Suites Maingate East. The price was unbelievable, so we said, what the heck, we'll try it. I've been to Disney about 10 times, and always stayed in Disney Resorts...but this time we're trying to do it on a small budget.

Anyway, we're two couples going, so suites are a must, but I'm scared about the Days Suites now that I've read about them. Are there any other suggestions about good CHEAP suites??

I'm in a panic :(

I stayed there my first trip (and only) trip.

I had to do the "budget thing" so it was o.k. I have read other posts that said it was the worst experience of their lives, but I never spent any time in the room other than to sleep and bathe.

It was fair, not the worst I've stayed in, but not even close to medium. Our room was clean and not bad, I've heard others were terrible.

Basic layout: "Suite"

Enter room, couch, one chair, tv, murphy bed.
Enter kitchen: table for four, fridge, micro, NO utensils, plates, ect (we bought throw away stuff at WalMart).

Bathroom

Bedroom w/ 2 dble beds.

Depending on how "close" the two couples are and how much time you will spend in the hotel, I would probably say stay somewhere else, unless you really do not care. (I was desperate at the last minute, so I took this, can't say I wouldn't do it again, but, then again...)

Thanks for the info and suggestions...I'm at a loss as to what we're going to do. We definitely won't be spending much time in the hotel rooms, only to sleep...but we want a place that will be clean at least, and be able to go swimming.

I'll definitely check those two links...I think we'll be spending a bit more than we had thought, but hey, I guess you get what you pay for :)

I'm still open for any suggestions you guys might have  Thanks!

I posted on another thread trashing Days Inn only to realize that the Suites and Days Inn maingate East are 2 separate hotels....the Suites does have a good rating on a number of websites I've visited....

so, I'd not worry as much as before...:D :D :D

Share a suite with another couple? Good luck!

If it were me, I'd book connecting rooms at the Allstars. You'd be on Disney property with Disney transportation if you wanted to split up. 2 rooms would give each couple a lot more privacy, not to mention 2 bathrooms.

I'm not sure about the Days Suites, but we stayed at the Quality Suites next door to that in March. We had a 2-bedroom suite which had 2 full bathrooms. We paid $105 per nite which we split 50-50, which made it cheaper than getting 2-rooms at All Star, plus you have the kitchen and breakfast included every morning.

$105 per night is barely cheaper 2 rooms at the All Stars. It all depends on the special rates that are out. For instance, I am staying at the All Stars for $55 per night on 12/23 using a code found on www.mousesavers.com. No, we don't have a kitchen or breakfast, but the All Star food courts are great and you can even toast your own bagels there :).

Also ... if you want to do things really cheap and are 100% certain on when you will be going, Priceline is a great resource. I have stayed at the 3* Renaissance World Gate for only $35 per night. The website www.biddingfortravel.com will help in bidding.

My concern with Priceline is not knowing where the hotel is until after I agree to the deal. I don't mind LBV area or the 192 area close to I-4, but I don't want to be farther away than that. How wide of an area do you have to agree to do go with Priceline.

As for All-Star vs. offsite, I'd still rather have the suite with the extra space. The other advantage for us is that my daughter can go to sleep in the bedroom and we can close the door and sit out in the living room area and watch TV. We can't do that in a standard hotel room.

You can just select the WDW area which covers the area between and including DTD and 192. If you go to PL and enter "Orlando" you can view a map of the area. FWIW, Bidding ForTravel (BFT) takes a lot of the guesswork about bidding on PL. You'll find a list of all the hotels which have come up on PL in Orlando, plus posts which have the prices that people have paid. You can't pick your hotel, but you can pick your area and your price and you'll probably get one of a handfull of hotels. I totally understand when people say that PL is not for them. It's better that you know that up-front than to be disappointed later. Of course, there are a lot of people who have been getting the Swan and Dolphin for $75-80 per night over Christmas that would disagree.

Thanks Robin. That does sound pretty good. The next time we want a regular room, I might give PL a try. But I know they don't let you bid for suites which is what we prefer if we are traveling with our daughter, so it wouldn't help us for WDW.<P>Steve

HI, one more suggestion..try searching yahoo for "villas at Somerset.....two and three bedroom two bath condos off 192 on Poinciana Blvd about 8 minutes to disney and usually 70 to 80 a night for your own bath and a big condo with heated pool. We stayed there and really liked them for the $$$...try the different sites I just saw 399 to 450 a week for these at the "Virgin UK" site....these are really a deal at this price ...good luck...Ted

try skyauction.com, they usually have some killer deals, that is if you are flexable. sometimes you find something that fits right in you timeframe and can save hundreds of dollars!!
