We have been mulling over getting add-on points for Vero.....since resale is our only option....can anybody who has done this give me a few pointers on the process? Do the points bought get added into our regular membership number - or do I always have the administrative nightmare of juggling two different accounts?

How costly are closing costs?

Thanks for any tips! :confused3

We have done multiple add-ons, through Disney (which is fastest) and resellers (also easy, but takes about 2 months total). It might be worth a call to Disney to see if they have any Vero points (maybe from a foreclosure?)
As long as you get add-on points with the same use year as your original contract you will have no problems. I don't even know the difference -- it's as if we had bought one big contract at the beginning. If you buy less than 150 points, Disney will only sell you the same use year as your original contract, I believe. If you buy resale your life will be lots simpler if you look for a contract with the same use year.
Closing costs with resellers will probably be at least $375 and more like $500. You could negotiate for the seller to pay these, though many buyers seem to negotiate on price and pay closing themselves to discourage Disney from taking the contract under ROFR. We have worked with 3 different resale agencies and all have been great. Timeshare Store (see link at top of page) seems to always have the most inventory, but you can call any of the resellers, tell them what you want, and they will contact you when something comes in.
Good luck! Maybe you'll find something with banked points!

We bought a resale contract through the Timeshare Store and were very happy with their service. Closing costs were $450.

A resale contract is treated as a separate membership complete with new member number. Having the same home resort makes it easier to manage the 11 month/ 7 month window. Depending on where you want to stay most. Having the same use year (UY) makes it easier to manage booking and banking times.

What surprised me with the resale contract was that even though both our contracts are for the same home resort the points are in completely separate accounts. Meaning if you have 75 points on contract A and 75 points on contract B and the reservation you want requires 150 points, it is not as simple as saying book it with my 150 points. You have to match each contract to each day's points. If you are staying 4 days at 20 points per night and 2 nights at 35 points per night you have to split it so that 2 of the 20 point nights are put together with 1 of the 35 point nights and link the reservations. This way each contract is accounting for the full points needed for a night's stay.

You can transfer points but I believe there are restrictions. Not trying to make this sound more complicated than it is, it was just another little twist to add to the add on process when done by resale.

All that being said we've had no problems doing it and are very happy with the purchase.

Good luck.

you can however link your contracts with MS after they have you in th esystem and it makes making ressies painless...............we have 7 add ons and it really is no different from any other contract

Someone older and wiser may set me straight, but....

if you buy the same UY and let Disney know before the process is complete, they will add the contract to your current one, which simplifies the reservation process. However, it cannot be changed after closing is finished.

Did I get it right????

dis-happy, that was the case with our VB add on, same use year, and it was put into the same contract. We're hoping the same happens with our VWL resale that we're adding on now.

Wow! This has totally NOT been our experience. Our points are 2 different resorts but one use year. All of our resale contracts are under our one original membership number. I never asked for this to be done, it just happened (maybe the agents just do this???) I have never had to worry about "which contract" or anything. When banking points, the %s are based on our TOTAL number of points in both resorts. When making ressies my only concern is the 11 month/7 month windows in the 2 different resorts. I wonder why we have one membership and others don't? Would it be related to whether or not the ORIGINAL contract was purchased from Disney or via resale?

Well I am learning some interesting things, as usual. Our original contract was through Disney at VWL, UY August. Our resale was through the Timeshare Store, VWL but UY in October. I questioned 3 different CM's when calling in about it and via email. All the same answer. 2 completely different memberships. The memberships are linked in that once we give them one number they have both contracts up in the system, but they treat them as separate memberships.

It is just a little tougher to manage but I find it interesting that others don't have this same situation... anyone else?

Thanks.

that is because UY are different..............but they still can be linked if you ask MS to do it...........the UY cant but both accounts will show up on there screen making your interaction with them easy.........because they can see you multi resort situations with you and understand your needs better
