Have any of you folks here ever been approached by a "friend" to join Amway? :furious:

From what I understand, it is no longer called Amway. My MIL and FIL are in it, but have never tried to recruit anyone. They just do it for the products.

Well I think it's called Quixstar now - but why is it they still insist on lying to you when you ask if they're calling you about Amway?

DW has a brother that fell for Amway, or whatever they call it this week. Wound up with a basement full of Amway stuff and spent a ton of money attending seminars and buying "sales kits". He has also fell for Shackley and New Skin, oh and some life insurance/investment sales thing too.

I like to let them go through the whole sales pitch, just let them talk for hours and hours. I act all interested, even take notes.

They always end with "So, what do you think?"

"Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me. Besides, I buy all my toilet paper at Target".

Man, do they get MAD!

oh yeah...

Or "direct buy" isnt that the same thing? Sure seems like it!

yep...years ago my DH and I were "kidnapped" by some new aquaintences and brought to a get-together. My DH was still active duty AF at the time, so thought we were just going to meet some new people. As soon as we walked in we realized what was going on. Despite some semi-hard sell we were finally allowed to leave-they were driving. Never did really speak to those people again.

One of the son's of the founding families is running for Govenor here in Michigan.

My Dad started selling "something" that is very Amway like... Bless his heart... it has supplemented his retirement income but I passed on joining. I barely have enough time as it is!

My parents finally ended a 9 year run with Amway/Quixtar this year. It effectively bankrupted them, almost destroyed their marriage (I was my Mom's fault because she wasn't "trying" hard enough to "make it"), and left them with a basement full of crap. I tried to get them to "see the light" about the "business" but to no avail. Thankfully, it didn't ruin my relationship with my Dad... a lot of family members in other cases who don't go along aren't so lucky.

As a side note, in addition to the veiled ponzi scheme that is Amway/Quixtar, an even bigger fraud is being carried out by the big cheese distributors who don't tell their underlings that most of their income comes not from the AmQuix business but all of the meeting tickets, convention tickets, book, and tapes that they sell them.

Friends of ours invited us to their house for dinner and "conversation". Well, the conversation was all about the wonders of Amway. When they started in with "We have to tell you about this great business opportunity", I knew that it was going to be a looooong dinner!

We said no thanks and were peeved that we were duped into that. We had no idea that they were going to give us a sales pitch!!!! Unreal!

I actully lovetheir products, but sucked at selling it or recruiting "members". It just wasn't worth all the fess to buy cleaning products, and most of my upline stoped. If I could find someone to buy from I would buy a few things a year. Some products are so concentrated that I'm still using them 10 yrs later.

We actually tried 2x, about 15 yrs apart. The first time what was really hard was no one we talked to would believe you could use so little detergent. Back then all the major retail brand detergents were full of fillers and it took 1/2 cup- 1 cup (depending on the brand) to wash clothes.

Has anyone seen the Southwest "Want to get away?" ad where a couple has been invited to a great dinner by another couple but the host says "before we have our meal, we have a great opportunity for you". Well that very thing happened to DH and I when we were first married. We thought this couple wanted our company but instead wanted us to sell Amway. They must teach them to use this deceitful approach...ugh...Amway, no thanks.

:lmao: Love those commercials but haven't seen that one. :lmao:

Yep... Dick DeVos. Many of you know my political affiliation as deeply conservative. However, I wouldn't vote for a DeVos or Van Andel (the other founding family) for Dog Catcher given the financial harm that their company has inflicted on families all across America.

Yep, good friends invited us. We joined, as we felt the products were great. However, I was left with a bad feeling that every meeting began with a prayer-a very evangelical prayer. Ex and I mentioned the the Direct that it bothered us and that business and religion don't mix-he blew us off.

The friends that got us involved also left soon after because they were tired of being told 'you're not trying hard enough'.

Great products, and I'd buy SA8 again in a second if I could find someone who sold the stuff who didn't bug me to join!

We have had this happen several times--once it was DH's old college roommate who drove all the way from Birmingham with is newfound "friend". We thought he was going to tell us he was gay :rotfl: Actually, I would have been happier if that were the case. Instead he wanted to recruit us for Amway.

Then there was the woman who befriended me when I had no one, newly moved to S. Florida, no family. She was so kind, so sweet--until she wanted me to babysit her kids "just for an hour" while she "gives a sales presentation." Well, the hour turned into 3hrs and then she came back and gave ME the sales pres. And had the audacity to tell me not to tell my DH that is was AmWay :furious: I don't think so~

Then, right after we moved to Georgia and we had just joined our church, DH was approached by an older gentleman. DH thought maybe he wanted to welcome him to the Men's Ministry. Oh no! He wants to recruit for AmWay! :sad2:

At this point I don't care if their stuff is make from 24kt. gold. I do not want anything to do with their slimey scheme. I do not need any fake "friends". :badpc:

I love their stain remover, but I won't buy it cuz it is such a sleazy company.

Anyone know who makes their stain remover so I can get it through another distributor.
