Scamp Trailer

Recently swapped my pop-up for a 16' Scamp travel trailer. The Scamp is quite a bit shorter than my pup and about the same height. I'd like to stay in the cheaper Tent or Pop-Up sites but if I'm reading the guidelines in reservations right I cannot. My experience is that trying to call will not gain much as I'll end up talking to someone from reservations that knows little about the Fort.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks,
Bill

You will have no problem using a partial site for your Scamp. I book my T@B always on partials with no issue, it is the same size as the Scamp. What you will not have is a sewer hookup, you will have to collect any grey water and black water if you have a bathroom and dispose of it properly. You will have access to water, electric and cable, also internet for an additional charge.

Nobody will hassle you on the DIS ressie phone line since you know best what type of site you need/can use. As long as you can "act like" a pup with catching your gray water and capturing your black water it is what it is.

As long as you know what the various Fort sites offer (Partial, Full, Preferred, Premium) then it's up to you to match up.

Good for you. I have to ask why you moved up from a pup to the Scamp?

I had to look up the Scamp to answer your question and realized I had seen them around but didn't know them by name.

What type/model do you have with your 16' Scamp? Bunks or bath up front? They look like a nice choice if you don't have a monster tow vehicle and want a four-season smaller travel trailer experience.

PS - I have a pop-up now and it is family sized but I dream of a smaller hard sided travel trailer in my future. I thought I would get a hybrid but the Scamp would be a welcome alternative to consider. That is, if DW approves. :worship:

We don't tend to camp for long but rather stay on the move so popping up got old. My pop-up was quite a bit roomier and a bit lighter than the Scamp but the Scamp is much easier and has a bathroom, which is good for four-year-olds. The Scamp also feels a bit more secure with hard sides and certainly does better in weather. We really like it. When my twins are big enough to be out of a carseat I think we'll move on to a motorhome.

Thanks for the info. We are currently in site 1501 and it's great for us. Close to bus, bathroom and Meadows. Used the suggested method of faxing five days ahead and got a great site. I don't think we'll use our toilet but may end up with some greywater in the tanks. Anyone know of a dump station nearby?

Thanks to all!

Yea! We want pictures. Or at least daily updates. popcorn::

To answer your question, there is no dump station at the Fort. Just find an empty site in one of the full hook-up loops on your way home and use it. Just back in, dump, and then drive off. Since you have holding tanks you can't use some of the other methods (I take my bucket of gray water to the laundry room at the Comfort Station and dump it in the big sink. Others pour in the toilet and flush it away). 1600 loop is next to you so check there first.

We stayed in 1504 just down the way from you last year (it has a huge sand pad). And in 1513 in the back along the canal. My favorite site is 1511 because it is big and on the canal.

Have fun. Hope you have good weather! :cool1:

I love Scamps, it was my first choice when starting out to camp. Then we moved to a Pop up for the bed sizes with having two children. We too do 20 day trips and the Pop up got tiresome... though we loved the weight and being able to park it in the garage.... So we moved to a Hybrid.... We can take a quick nap in it... Full Sized Fridge, Bathroom and Shower... but has the Bunk Ends so we are still outside camping....

Will be down June 12-21st.... looking forward to it.
