scammed through ebay...how do I get my $$$ back?!?

Ugh...so pissed off. Just bought a coat off of ebay...I asked for a tracking number...and the tracking number is not legit. They won't answer me back. Obviously I've been scammed. I paid through paypal..but it went on my credit card. How do I go about this? Any help really appreciated. It was over $100. :(
 
File a claim with Paypal. Easy.
 
I've had two incidents with ebay/Paypal. One time, it showed that I purchased about 7 expensive golf clubs for hundreds of dollars (I don't even play golf). Anyway, I e-mailed to find out what to do, and within about two minutes, I had a Paypal rep calling me to take care of it. The money was reversed right away. I had another non-legit episode of charges, and again, Paypal took care of it, no questions asked. I believe I did have to speak with them on the phone, but they were wonderful to deal with.

By JUST bought a coat - when do you mean?

Sometimes the tracking numbers don't come up valid for a bit - I have had that happen on numerous items I have purchased from various sources (not just ebay.

How long have you been emailing the person? Could they be away from the computer?

I agree with Liz - unless it's been going for days and days now, I wouldn't necessarily panic due to the tracking #. Could just not be logged into the transportation company's system yet, could be a typo, anything.

I just don't assume scam at the first hint of anything wonky - I tend to give the benefit of the doubt for a little bit of time anyway.
 
Sometimes tracking #'s do not update and show valid for 24 to 48 hrs. If you just bought the coat give it a few days. If the coat doesnt show up you can file a claim with Paypal to get your money back (just log into your Paypal account and follow the simple steps) keep in mind they wont consider it a no show for at least a couple of weeks. Did the seller you bought from have a good feedback rating ?? I always check the seller feedback before buying. Hope it works out for you.
 
Sometimes my tracking numbers from my students' Scholastic Book Club orders don't show up for almost a week. All I see is XXXXXXXXXXX, where the number should be.


If it's only been a few days, I would not panic. :teacher:
 
I have to agree with the PPs. If you just got the tracking # within the past day or so, it may take time for USPS tracking system to pick it up. I have had it happen to me where I bought something on Ebay, got a tracking number, looked it up for several days and nothing. Then it arrived at my door. Then the USPS system showed it was delivered when 2 hours before it showed up as not existing.

How long have you been trying to contact the seller? Sometimes a seller only checks there account every few days because they schedule all of their auctions to end a certain day.

But if I didn't get a response for several days more than 3, I would be on the horn with Paypal/Ebay.

It matters what carrier the tracking is from. The USPS tracking is typically way out of date, while the FedEx and UPS are only slightly slower than real time.

In any case, as long as they can't provide a valid tracking number, PayPal will absolutely refund your money. Doing a chargeback through the credit card is a last resort, since Paypal can point to their terms of service and claim they did due diligence.
 
Did the seller have a lot of ratings and has he/she been an ebay member for a long time?

If the above are true, I would not think I had been scammed.

Someone did hack my itunes account and used my Paypal. It took about 2 weeks to get it all straitened out.

I hope you haven't been scammed.
 
I might print a batch of labels Friday night and get my boxes ready but they won't show in the system until UPS picks up Monday afternoon.
 
Watch the reputation of the people you buy from - make sure they have more than a few transactions and a 99 or 100 percent approval rate, and that they except returns.

If you think you have been scammed, contact Paypal immediately and stop payment. Alert your credit card company and don't pay off the card until it has been settled. Ebay also supposedly guarantees receipt of items up to your purchase price and one-way shipping cost. Alert them so they can prevent anyone else from being scammed.

Be aware that not everyone spends all day on ebay... have you given your seller appropriate time to respond?
 
I'd give a few days to see. There's times when we've boxed stuff up for shipping but taken more than a day to get it to the post office. Even then, they don't check it in immediately, we just set it on the counter.

You have to wait a minimum amount of time before you can open a dispute. The seller selects the amount of days that they will take to ship the item, then add the maximum amount of days the post office takes for delivery.

So if the seller selects 3 days for shipping parcel post, it'll take nearly 2 weeks before you can open a claim. They take the 3 days, and add it to the 2-9 days of estimated shipping time.

If you selected a faster shipping option, like priority, take the seller's estimated shipping time, and add 3 days it takes the post office for shipping.
