Hello, DISers. I am wondering if anyone can fill me in on the particulars regarding purchasing local APs, and how payments work? I tried to look around and see if there is a superthread or something, but I had no luck. My DS's GF is moving to Southern California, and we want to make the downpayment on an AP for her if she can afford the payments.

TIA! :goodvibes

This link should get you started: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/monthly-payments/buy/

Here is the FAQ on the disneyland site: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/annual-passports/

Monthly payment depends on pass level. You must put the payments on a credit/debit card (i.e., no paper billing or check writing). Down payment is $87 regardless of pass level bought. HTH! :goodvibes

That is a very sweet gesture of you all to make a down payment for your DS’s GF! I called Annual Pass Services and they said that the only way to open up a new annual pass is to have it under her name with her card. Then you can give her cash to pay for part of it, but it sound like you can’t switch credit cards or debit cards with different names. When I lost my wallet, I canceled all the charge cards and had to get a new annual pass. Since I did not have any charge card on me, my husband asked if the monthly payments could be put on his card, they said that they only way for it to be put on his card is if he pays for the rest of the months in full. I would call Annual Pass services again and see what else can be done.

Hope this helps! Good Luck:)

also, before you can even make the downpayment, you have to have a So Cal physical address to give them and when she goes to pick up her pass she has to show proof that she is a so cal resident...

but can i just make a suggestion?? have her get the deluxe pass... my daughter got her so cal pass and we thought that it would be fine..she wouldnt really be going much in the summer and saturdays werent a really big deal for her anyways...however, just in the last few weeks we have started talking about halloween and christmas..we are doing the halloween party and I wanted to go over to DCA the next day (sat.) and we are going for a long weekend at the beginning of dec. which includes a??? yep you guessed it...a saturday...shes blocked out on saturdays...a one day blockout day pass is $70 so going twice will be $140 which is EXACTLY the difference between having the so cal and the deluxe but the deluxe is alot more days...so we are going to bump her up to the deluxe and its like $31 vs. $21 or something...not a major game changer...so just wanted to give you something to think about...

Thank you for the links! That's very helpful. I am hoping to contribute a larger amount to the down payment, so the first thing I'll be researching is whether or not there is a cap.

I am glad to know how this works, and thank you for taking the time to collect information for me! :goodvibes I will definitely give her the money so that everything can be established under her name.

We were already intending to give her enough for a PAP. My DS will likely be able to visit more often on Saturdays, so we don't want them to have to deal with blockout days at all, plus the free parking and discounts will be helpful to two kids starting out. I will figure out what amount I need to contribute so that she will be making a reasonable payment, and that will be our gift amount. :thumbsup2

Well, perhaps you could look into buying her a ticket and having her upgrade the ticket. She can use the ticket as the down payment. That way she can handle all the upgrading on her own.

A three day park hopper is $250 I believe. So $649 PAP-$250=$399. $399 divided by 12 =$33.25 per month.

We got our annual passes for the 4 of us by upgrading our 3 day park hopper passes. We pay $61.xx per month total for all for passes. They applied the full amount of the park hoppers towards the balance.

Oh, this is an interesting idea! So, if I buy her a PH and she upgrades it at the park and has a current SC address they will allow her to make monthly payments and use the PH in place of a down payment?

no...to be able to make mo payments you HAVE to have a CA address...they are saying this to give you options to make it easier for you to purchase it..

I'm confused what you are reading that indicates I don't understand this. ;) She will have a SC (Southern California) address by the time this takes place, that's what I mean.

Exactly. You buy the ticket and don't have to worry about getting the monthly payments set up. Give her the PH and just make sure she knows to upgrade before the end of her last day. That way she can show them her address and put her card down for the monthly payments. They will apply the full amount paid for the PH to the cost of the pass. HTH! :goodvibes

Thank you everyone! I am excited to give her the PH (and probably a touch more, maybe to cover the first payment) and to hear all about their adventures as they spend a year as grown-up AP holders! It's a new stage of being a Disney parent, I guess. :rotfl: It's a long way from renting strollers and introducing my DS to Mickey for the first time, but I am so excited that he and his GF love DLR and are going to enjoy it during the next stage of their lives. :wizard:

Hi, again. Once again, I need to pick the brains of those of you who've purchased APs on the payment plan. I just called guest relations to ask what proof of address DS's GF will need, and she told me she won't need proof, she'll just need to know her address. That sounds wrong to me, so I just wanted to ask if that has been the experience of those who have used this payment method? She is just now moving, and she is renting a room and will not be the primary for any utility bills or anything, and she won't have had time to change her driver's license yet. I'm not sure what proof she could provide, but I want to be prepared if she needs something...

no thats not right....she is going to have to show something...they wont just take her word for it....my daughter just had to upgrade her pass and she rents an apartment with someone else but nothing is in her name...she moved there back in March...her drivers licence still shows her home address which is not in so cal...so she had to take her school ID card as well as her DL and show them she was definitely staying down there...I would call back and explain the situation to someone else and ask them what kind of proof will be acceptable vs what she has...but I swear to you that she is going to need some sort of proof because regardless of what they say on the phone...when she gets to the ticket booth to get her AP, they will make her show something!!

When I first moved to California, I called Disneyland because I wanted to buy some special SoCal tickets they were selling at the time but I didn't have my CA license yet. I was told I could use a utility bill or something similar proving my new address. I can't imagine she won't need anything at all!! If you buy them online, your billing address has to match your shipping address, and it must be a SoCal address to get a SoCal AP and a Cali address to use the payment plan.

sonnyjane...thats the problem...the OP said that they dont have utilities bills or change in address to so cal address yet

I agree that she needs to provide some type of proof.

For my daughter, son, & his girlfriend at the time, I gave them Disney gift cards that they could put towards annual passes instead of cash.

If she is considering getting a Premium or Deluxe AP (OP mentioned PAP earlier in the thread), her living in So Cal would be a moot point. She would only need to be a CA resident to use the payment plan.

I'm a Nor Cal resident and purchased myself and DD16 AP vouchers in May, I purchased them online (to beat the upcoming insane price increase). When I activated them I had to show my CA ID to complete the process, when I purchased the voucher online I didn't have to prove I was a resident but my billing address DID have to be in CA to qualify for the monthly payments. She WILL need to prove her residency, I would call back. It's possible she can take a copy of the rental agreement or it's possible she can take her school ID and her current drivers license to activate but I really don't know.

This is correct, you do not need to be a So Cal resident to get the monthly payment plan, as stated above I have the monthly payment plan for our APs and it wasn't a problem even though I'm in Nor Cal.
