You've probably all thought of this before....but I just came up with the neatest idea.

While working on DH's Army album, I wanted to include a photo copy of a map of Germany he had. Well, the actual photo copy he had was quite large (larger than 12x12) & he had highlighted in yellow some cities on it. It's been in a drawer...and it's dog-eared. I knew I didn't want to cut it up...and I didn't want to use it as is. The white paper really wouldn't go with the layout.

I've been using a tan antique paper in places throughout his album. I took a piece (12x12) to Staples ...along with some blank white 12x12's I had that come inside some page protectors I purchased (that I had no other use for).

Staples was able to copy the portion of the map I wanted in black & white (thus removing the yellow highlighter) onto the tan antique paper. She had to enlarge the area I wanted to fill the 12x12. (She used the blank white 12x12's I brought to do her testing & centering on.)

My cost at Staples for CUSTOM ANTIQUE MAP BACKGROUND 12x12 PAPER..... 13 CENTS!!!!!!!!

I'll definitely be using this idea again (somehow) !

I make a map background page from the map that we get when we rent the car. I scan it in then print the page. They do have map paper but this way it is from our town or the one we visited.

Safetymom, I used to do similar things (scanning & printing) when I scrapped on 8.5x11. But now that I've changed to 12x12.... I need to find more creative ways since I don't have a 12x12 printer at home (YET ;) ..know what I mean? LOL)

Pros & cons of both scrapping sizes I guess.

I have the Epson Photo 1280. It is great for printing those 12x12 pages. :) I have scanned loads of things to use for background pages. I have also taken a lot of digital photos to use as background pages.

Do you just put regular 12x12 white scrapbook paper in the printer?

Yes I do just put the scrapbook paper in the printer. I see that Epson is coming out with scrapbooking paper in both sizes in May. I can't wait to try that paper.

Ok, I love this idea! Question when either scanning and printing or having copied do you lighten so it is more watermark quality or just as is and then mat the photos before putting them on the page?

Deb

It depends on what look I am going for if I lighten the image or not. Certain pictures look real good as the background paper.

We are on vacation this week -- but at home doing projects around the house. If I can steal enough time away to finish the pages.... I'll try to post it by this weekend. Don't hold me to it though. LOL

I know what my schedules are like - no way would I ever hold someone to something like that!

Have a good week.
Deb
