My best friend and I took our mothers on a 3 day outing in Lancaster for their mothers day gifts. We had a wonderful time. I took about 3 rolls of film and I promised to make scrapbooks of the trip for each of our mothers. That was May and now three months later I haven't scrapped a single page. I am going to an all day crop this Saturday. I found an article on speed scrapping an album and I thought I would give it a try. I am not a very prolific scrapper so this should be a real challenge for me.

Chessie - Let us know how it goes! I've never tried this approach, but I could see how it could be helpful.

I like the idea of putting everything into a binder. That is also one of Becky Higgins' suggestions for getting organized and it is something that I've been wanting to do.

I'm not sure I like the idea of every page having the same exact colors and limiting the amount and type of supplies, though. That would make things go smoothly, but so would really limit the creativity and variation in your pages. Then again - the object here is speed and in that case, it would work. :)

I like the concept but would have to change colors more often. But I change easily and don't hesitate so I could still do it quickly. I think I'm going to try this for one of my neice albums.

Thanks for the link.

I've done 2 albums that could be considered this style, I think. One was for my sister's surprise 40th birthday party. It was a 5x7 album, all black pages with glittery "party" stickers for borders. It went together really quickly! The other one is the building of our house. It was a 12x12 album with cream colored pages and I used only dark green, navy blue, and maroon cardstock as accents and inks. I think it turned out nice and has a nice continuity to it. It also went together pretty quickly.
I think you'll like having a color theme for a weekend album like that.

I tried to do this for my dad's 60th birthday album,
I used the Colorwheel Antique Palette cardstock, which has 6 coordinating colors in it. I actually found in the end I had too much choice (I had 6 colors and they each came in quite a few patterns) I think if i did it again I would just stick with the solid cardstock and maybe one patterned paper.
I think the key is really planning ahead and sticking to it - I kept changing my mind halfway through the album and adding new pages etc, so it wasn't quite as fast as I'd have liked

One of my friends on a UK board, did a mini album for a recent trip she took to Sweden - I was just trying to find it on 2 peas to show you, but I can't see it, but basically she used the same style on all of the pages, which was similiar colors and journalling on strips of vellum - it looked really cool, but hard to explain with a photo.

Actually I scrap like this a lot! Who knew! IT really does make the pages go by faster only draw back it makes it sooooo much harder when you go back to your ongoing albums!
I finished several albums this year. MY DD kindergarten teacher's album, baseball/ballet and both kids school year. All went fast.....
but now I am working on their daily lives and it is much slower....because I am constantly changing gears...the zoo the pool picnics, friends....

I do find it is overwhelming when you have tons of paper, stickers die cuts....which I have and NEED!!!!!!!!!

I think for the type of album you're wanting to do this would be perfect. I've got a friend who scraps like this all the time. I don't think I'd like it for all my stuff because I enjoy being more creative - but I can say this for her - she's completely caught up on scrapping her two children right now!

Okay! I've found MaryAnne's sweden album

Mary Annes Sweden Album

It looks really cool but I don't know if it would make me any faster, I would still agonise over every thing - but that's my style

Her album looks great! I would definitively put together a small album using that technique. I couldn't do anything big because I get bored after a while.

I used to always get a second set of kid prints to share with my mother and mil, but it got to be too expensive (as I take a lot of pictures). So I've decided to go through my books and pick out my most favorite pictures of the kids and put together a small album for each of them (Christmas gift). I just may use this technique in those albums, that way it's not putting me too far behind in my own scrapping.

Thanks again for providing this link! You definitively got my wheels turning!

Let me tell you how my speed scrapping went.

I didn't follow the directions exactly but they gave me a working plan. I went to the scrapbook store armed with 3 rolls of photos that had been arranged in chronological order, my XXL tote, which is always packed as it is my storage unit and a little packet of memorabilia from the trip. It was spring when we took our little trip so I thought blue, yellow and green. I chose a pretty muted yellow, green and blue cardstock and also chose their darker counterpart. I picked up 8 of each. Then I went to the print papers and chose one to go with the yellows, the blues and the greens and picked up 3 of each. I was then off to find my seat at the crop. I fanned my paper out in their familles at the top of my scrapping area and put my CM mat and straight cutter in front of me. I took the first 4 photos off the stack of photos that were of the same subject and found the main color and chose a cardstock accordingly. I then chose 2 coordinating papers to work as borders, mounts and journaling boxes. By the end of the crop I had completed 18 pages and have 4 with pictures mounted and all of the elements made. I just have to glue them on the pages. This is truly a giant record for me. I feel if I finish 4 pages at an all day crop I have accomplished much. I still had time to visit with other scrappers and to watch the demos. I feel I am about half finished the 2 books but if I carry this process to a couple of my weekly Tuesday afternoon crops I think I will be finished in no time.
