SB - scrapping with character autographs

When we went to WDW, I took unlined 3x5 cards for autographs. In incorporating them into my scrapbook, I made out OK with most but am really unhappy with the way my princess page turned out. There was something "not right" about it but I couldn't figure out what it was.

I showed it to someone who is a scrapping pro, and also happens to sell scrapbook products (not CM). Here's her suggestion, I thought I'd mention it for anyone else interested. My problem is, there is too much WHITE on the page from the autograph cards. The cards have become the focal point, rather than the pictures.

Her suggestion is to put the autograph card UNDER the picture, and make it like a lift-the-flap thing. (you could easily do this with an envelope - have the back of the envelope facing you. Paste the autograph card onto the envelope, UNDER the flap. Then paste the picture onto the flap). Then use an exacto knife to cut the page procector so you could actually lift the flap.

This way you could still see the autographs but they don't take over the page. I really like this idea. Unfortunately I already cropped both the autograph cards and the pictures, so nothing would fit properly. Not to mention that they are all already pasted onto the paper. Although she seems to think I could salvage everything and fix it properly. I'm going to try something else before resorting to such drastic measures.

how about scanning some of the autographs and printing them out on coloured cardstock? you can resize them if needed as well. I did that for my Princess page, because they were all in the autograph book and I was really pleased with how it turned out, I printed them onto Pink cardstock.

or, if they are already stuck down, could you put vellum over them? either plain or coloured. You could either have the vellum loose at the bottom so you can lift it to see the original, or cut a window in teh vellum but just around the autograph, so you get less white, or if you use a Zyron, you might be able to stick the vellum right down and still see through it well enough to see the autograph, but I'd try that with a scrap and a pretend autograph first.

I have heard of Vellum and seen it at the stores but don't know what it's all about? Is it something special to use?

Scanning the autographs might be an option, and I guess I could get reprints of the photos.

Vellum is a type of paper that is mostly see-thru. You could get a peice to cover the page and cut out where the picture are and any journaling so it can be seen clearly.

I made autograph books using Disney scrapbook papers & die cuts. It made it really easy to make pages, just the picture and the autograph page was plenty of decoration. That was 3 years ago and we've used the autograph books again and I've just added some more paper. The characters enjoyed seeing their pictures also Now if I could just get the pages all done

Have you thought about trying chalk? You could soften the white by using the chalk on the edges of the paper or even chalking over the entire white page? If not try the vellum.
Can you scan your pages so we can have a better idea? The envelope sounds interesting but too complicated for me! Plus I don't like the idea of cutting my page protectors I know people do it but I think it will cause a problem down the road.

Actually I hope sometime this week to take digital pics of all my pages and upload them at easyfoto or something. I'll let you guys know when I do!

my sister took my daughter to Disney for her 11th birthday! What a sister! I sent Sarah with a book for the autographs. On one page I put her photo opposite the autograph and decorated the page with stickers and borders. You canstill do the same thing. put a piece of colored paper behind the index card glue in a book ad add the potos to the opposite page. and if you don't have a photo just add photo of the character. It should turn out great!

I am wondering if it might work to make my own Autograph books and use clear vellum for the pages. I would need to take along a Sharpie or Slickwriter for the characters to sign with so it wouldn't smear. That way, I could be sure the autographs would blend in with the pages in my little ones' albums when I do them, whatever color I do them in.

I was thinking to put it together with paper sheets between the vellum sheets so there would be a paper backdrop to make it easier to sign. I might be able to get it bound somewhere.

Do you think this would work?

That sounds like a very smart way to go just be bareful that they don't wrinkle. that would be sad.

If you're going to incorporate the autograph pages into an album, why would you want to go to the trouble of creating a special autograph book that you'll have to pull apart when you're finished with it? (run-on sentence alert! ) How about just taking the vellum, with the paper sheets, and attach them to a clipboard so the characters can sign? It might be a bit much to carry around though.

I used a 4x6 spiral index card notebook and taped papers to it with removable tape. The same thing could be done with vellum and it is not a problem to carry around at all.
