A question for the scrapping experts around here . . .

I have some wonderful buttons I'd like to use on a Pirate Cruise layout I'm doing, but they aren't flat on the back. Instead, they're the kind that stick out about 1/16 - 1/8". If you were using them on clothing, you'd sew them on through the part that sticks out instead of using holes that go through the face of the button. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, I can't get them to lay flat on the page. I bought them from one of the online scrapbooking stores, so I assume they're intended for scrapbooking.

Any ideas how I can use them????

AHHHH Raid your DH tool chest and get his wire cutters...then cut the shank off!

That's an excellent idea, Spinning! Unfortunately, these are one molded piece of plastic (I should have said that), and I'm not aware of anything that would cut through them. The plastic is pretty thick.

I would still try the wire cutters, even though its plastic then file it smooth.

Or use a Pop Dot and smoosh the end into the dot and then put it on the page. That at least will stabilize it and will also some "zing" to it making it pop up a bit.

I had buttons and I for sure thought that the wire cutter would not cut off the shank. Nope, it cut through it fine! Go ahead, and cut it off. Or do the glue dot idea!

get some sand paper and sand them down

There is a tool designed for this. It is a button shank cutter, and I bought mine at Joann Fabrics for about 4-5 dollars. That said, I have also used a wire cutter and they work fine, they just sometimes leave a little tab of plastic.: :3dglasses :magnify:

OK. This is me :moped: :boat: :moped: off to the 'tool store' to get a wire or shank cutter. And, here I thought you just needed paper and glue to make a scrapbook. :rotfl:

Oh, look!!! I found my ex-husband. :firefight
