After reading sweatpea's thread it got me thinking about how often I tell my friends and family that I love them. I make a point to tell my family each and every time we talk. My close friends, well I tell them occasionally. But I do think I should let them know more often.

How often do you tell people you love them?

For those of you who do tell them often are you afraid that if you don't tell them something bad will happen and you'll never get the chance again?

My DH, DD, DS as well as my Dad, brothers and sisters say it every time we see each other, or are leaving after seeing one another. This is one legacy my mom left, and we will carry it on with our kids. Family is far too precious to not say "I love you."

Also, as I have grown older, I have discovered just how wonderful it can be to say that to a friend, and how terrific it feels to hear it.

I say it to DS every day...more than once a day. With my friends and family, I say it every time I talk to them. It's how I end ALL my conversations with them. With too many people gone from my family, I find I must say it to those still here.

I just wanted to add that my DH and I say it so much that we are continually being teased that we are still on our honeymoon. We will be married for 12 years on November 16th!

Truly I am blessed.

Actually my grandkids & I have a big secret.........we say I Love You. I'll tell my granddaughters that I have a big secret. They come over and I whisper I Love You. They then turn around and do the same to me. It is our only secret though.

Oh, my! That date! I'm finally glad to hear something good about that date! Congratulations!! November 16 was the date my husband died. This year will be 11 years...a major reason I say I Love You to everyone!

I don't say it very often, it is hard for me to say, except to Simba and Cali, I tell them all the time.:D

I grew up without hearing those words at all. So, I make a point of telling my kids that quite often.
It's hard for me to say it to others though.

I've never had a problem telling my dh or my dd that I love them frequently but I was always more hesitant with my siblings and my parents. But I have a brother that started saying it to me every time he talked to me (and I'm sure he was saying it to our 6 other sibilings too). It's kind of caught on with all of us over the last couple years and now it would be very unusual for me to say goodbye either in person or by phone without telling them all I love them. I tell my dearest friend that I love her occasionally too but not every time I talk to her or anything though. And I tell Titus I love him before saying goodbye in every email or when we are IMing each other. Having Titus in a war zone seems to have caused my hesitancy to saying "I love You" to him to evaporate, lol.

With my own family, parents and siblings we say it every time we talk or are in each other's presence. My DH - I tell him constantly. My Furbabies hear it an awful lot as well.

My in-laws are another story. I can think of 3 times in the past 8 years that MIL has even hugged me. One was a funeral, my wedding day, and recently for something else. They never tell each other they love each other. I tell my nephew every time I see him though and he tells me right back, " Love you Aunt Manda! Have a nice Day!" He's two and too cute!

I have a different perspective.

Dh's family says it all the time, but IMO their actions don't show it. I'm not against people expressing "I love you", but I put much more stock in showing love through actions than through words.

Ideally, both ways of showing love would be nice!

I agreee with Serena so I always make it apoint to tell me son everyday everytime he is going to leave the house or he is on the phone " I Love him" Did anyone see 8 simple rules, the episode Tuesday was about the father ( John Ridder dying) and the grandfather said it is important to say I love you, he never got that in his life. I remeber my mom telling me see loved me on her death bed, I said to her, "Mom, I love you" and she said it back. UH OH, the tears are coming, remind people in your lifes just how much they are loved, a simple 3 words can make someones day, I know it does mine. :D

Yes, we're a huggy, I love you, kind of family. DH and I, my parents and siblings, we never hesitate to show how much we care. That also goes for when we're annoyed with each other..lol.

DH's family is a little more reticent about physical and verbal displays of affection, but they're improving!! :) :)

I say I love you to my grandparents whenever I get off the phone with them. I say I love you to my parents whenever I get off the phone with them or when I see them. I am contstantly telling my mother, I'm a needy little girl and need her "I love yous" in person all the time :)

I tell my boyfriend I love him all the time, of course ;) During phone conversations and in person. Tell his mother I love her when we hang up the phone.

I'm very affectionate, I don't hold back. Don't tell my siblings much, but they're young. Tell my sister more than my brother because she says it to me all the time.

Since my DH died this past July, my 5 yo dd is forever yelling out "I love you Mommy! I love you more than chocolate, or sleeping, or Christmas..." The other day she said, "I love you more than I love myself!" I disolved into tears, she's so precious.
