Snakes and Gators at CBR? Snakes I know can be everywhere in Florida but I was really hoping the gators would be kept out of WDW. Somehow. How bad is it?

We stayed there in Feb of this year and did not see a single snake or gator. We did see some tiny lizards. However, everytime we walked around that lake, I was very curious as to what creatures live in it... ;)

It's Florida... snakes and gators are everywhere. Disney does what it can and will remove gators that get to a specific size. Otherwise, they let them be because they are not a danger.

Heck, they have had gators in the Magic Kingdom...

Stay away from the water's edge and don't feed them and they won't bother you.

Last time we were there walking on bridges between Frontierland and Liberty Square when we saw several official serious looking guys. Down below was about a 6 ft alligator. Glad we had already done Tom Sawyer Island because I dont think I could have gone on that trip.

Snakes and Gators pretty much everywhere here in FL. Their have been multiple sightings of gators on property, I personally have never seen a single one, but if you do come across one, please don't feed them. They are removed once they get too big. If your curious their are some videos on youtube.

There is a fellow Disboard member whose son was bit by a water moccasin at CBR and spent many days in the hospital. I believe he is fine now and Im pretty sure it was a couple years ago, but it can happen. Ive seen snakes at POP, CBR (just a month ago) and both of those I believe were just harmless snakes but last Sept I was on boat from WL to MK and saw a water moccasin "standing" straight up in the water about 10 feet from the boat! Ive yet to see a gator at WDW but I know they are there! Always be aware of your surroundings, stay away from waters edge, and always stay on the paths away from the brush and bushes and keep your children away from bushes.

Yes I read about that little boy getting bit by the snake, I believe he dropped his toy in a shrub and was reaching under it to get the toy and the snake was there.

I have never seen a snake or a gator, but last summer at CR we saw an armadillo when walking from the tower to our room in the garden wing. It was really cool.

The gator that lives over in the CSR lake the CMs named Glenn. I believe he got too big though and was moved this past year. However, supposedly there is another one over there now. We used to look for Glen every trip. You could usually find him swimming over by the Laguna bar. For some reason people were always dropping food down to him.:sad2: They also have a bobcat named Bob that hangs out over at the pond across the road from the Ranchos section. We've seen snakes at POP, CSR, and PORS. It's the south, critters are going to be there, there is no way WDW can keep them all out. We were on the DME bus once on our way from the airport to POFQ. The bus stopped first at Saratoga Springs. The driver stopped just before we got to the DME bus stop, to show us an alligator lying beside the pond sunning himself.

Never saw a gator, but dh and dd saw a 2 ft. Black snake at POFQ last week. It slithered into the landscaping between Buildings 5 and 6. Glad I wasn't with them!

I have seen two snakes in 2009 and 2010 that came out of the wood area onto the pathway by the far end of the Beach Club. We used to see the gator regularly in the canal at the Beach Club villas until about 3 years ago, he was quite large and so I guess he was removed.

I guess where there is water, there will be snakes. Ugh. I've seen a couple, 2 at WL and 2 at EPCOT but not in several years. As much as I hate them, it's not going to make me afraid to go to WDW. I just don't let my grandkids walk in the grass or get too close to the bushes. I also don't like how housekeeping will keep 1st floor doors propped open while they are cleaning. Prime opportunity for snakes to slither in.

This post gives me the heebie jeebies! LOL. I am so not an outdoorsie girl! My husband has asked to go camping and I tell him he can whenever he wants and if he wants me to go then we either need an RV or a nice hotel near his camping site so I can wave goodnight to him! :rotfl2:

I saw the gator at CSR when i stayed there in June 2009! We asked one of the bellhops about it when he picked us up for our flight home, and he said it's completely normal, and Disney does what it can not to disrupt their natural environment, so they don't move them until they get to a certain length. He said they're all over the property though, since there's a lot of swamp areas.

A snake slithered onto a walkway at GF when we were staying a few years ago. Hard as I tried, I could not convince myself that it was animatronic.... Not a fan....

What is the right attitude when we see gator / snakes? Warn CMs, or don't bother because it's business as usual?

In case of snakes, try to kill them? How?

Is there a website where we can learn about FL snakes? I'm from overseas, so not familiar with american species, don't know which are venom...

Michelle, aren't you glad we didn't book at CSR now????? :rotfl:

I don't think I'd go out of my way to tell a CM unless I saw a snake that I knew was venomous. Snakes and gators are part of life in FL, and some of the gators have been living in resort waterways for years.....see "Glenn" at CSR, above. :)

Definitely don't try to kill a snake. If it's venomous, it could be dangerous to do so, if it's not venomous, there's no reason to kill it. Just walk around it. If you are concerned that the snake might be harmful, tell a CM.

As long as you stick to the paths or beach areas and don't go into lakes, rivers, etc, and don't stick your hands or feet into the shrubbery, you're not going to be in danger from an gator or snake at WDW.

Which is why we ALWAYS request an upper level floor. I know snakes, spiders, lizards, etc. can be there, too...but if I were a snake I would slither for the closest open door vs. climbing the stairs to get to the one on the 3rd floor :rotfl2:
