Friends just came back from Disney. They stay at the Swan and Dolphin frequently and said they had to pay to park at these hotels. I asked if it was valet parking and they said just for regular parking. I think is was $8 or $9 a day! :scared1: Can anyone give me more information on this? We were planning on staying there for our next trip and are not looking forward to the additional $70+ for the week. Thanks.

it has been that way for a while now. I though I could find it on their website?

I was told by a friend last night looking into staying at these hotels and they said that it is 10.00 a day for parking. They might be looking someplace else now. Good luck with your planning.pirate:

The parking fee has been in effect for at least a year now. It's $9.00 a day plus tax. You can come and go as you please during the day and not be charged each time you enter and leave. It's a daily charge. I have no problem paying this fee, as it forces the cheaters who used to park there for free and then use Disney's transportation system to the parks think twice about doing it now.

Shades of Green charges to park as well, I think their daily fee is $5.00

They're doing this now instead of charging a "resort fee" per day on your room.

I think it's kind of cheesy, but it's better than the resort fee.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the WDW resorts start charging for parking eventually.

so far Disney doesn't. the Swan and Dolphin are NOT WDW resorts.

what I would expect first - is for WDW to start charging their WDW resort guest to park at their theme parks.

until that happens not worrying about WDW resorts being charged for parking while staying at that WDW resorts.

I prefer when a resort fee includes parking and internet.

Now you have to pay parking and internet (approx $20 per night total).

When we stayed 2-3 years ago you had to pay parking and the resort fee. There was actually some kind of law suit against them for this and they sent us a coupon for something or other, as repayment. We never used it because I would only stay there again as a last resort.

and on the other side of that coin? we're staying offsite for the bulk of our vacation, and are making the choice to park at the Swan. It's familiar territory to us, we can end our day at the Boardwalk, and will have paid the same price as parking at one of the WDW parks. For us, it's a win-win situation. :)

That said, It does bug me to pay to park when I'm staying there, parking my car, and not moving it all week. LOL.

I always stay at the Swan but we fly in so paying for parking isn't an issue for me thank goodness! It has been in effect I think for over a year now. They got rid of the resort fee and now they have this. I was told they got rid of the resort fee because guests that don't have a car or use the internet felt it unfair to be charged for it so now those services are charged separately.

Why don't they just give the people parking passes that stay there, just like Disney properties? That way you won't have people parking there that don't belong.

it could be because the S/D house many conventions, and I imagine as a result, there are quite a few offsite guests to that resort. Pure speculation on my part, though.

that is ridiculous. If you are staying at the hotel you should park for free. The front desk should give passes to display in the car window for its guest and outsiders pay a fee.

Yes, you do. We were there in May and it was $9/day/night. No way of getting around it.

It is pretty common for other Westin hotels and even other upscale chains in other cities to charge for parking.

Parking at large hotels in most big cities is VERY common. I have seen parking charges in Washington, NYC, Boston, etc. Last month I even was charged parking at the Inter Continental in Dallas.

We just returned from the Hilton on Waikiki and paid $20 per night to park there. Outrageous, I know, but it seems to be more and more common.

I kind of miss the resort fee option, because I could decline it and still end up with free internet access (to DIS with)!

And if we weren't staying at SD, we'd be at SoG paying $5 a day.

So, with the $4 difference and being close to 2 parks- I won't sweat the small stuff!
