MSN.com reporting Disney will be closing the ESPN Zone restaurant at the Boardwalk. I just discovered their hot wings last year and is a must do everytime I go! Damn this economy!

I thought the ESPN Zone locations on Disney property were going to be spared the axe? The one in Anaheim is supposedly going to stay open, I assumed Orlando would as well.

My understanding is that they are closing only the ones NOT on Disney property.

Oh I hope you guys are right, but read this

Ok, that link did not work. How about this:

Report: Disney to shutter ESPN Zones
The media giant will keep restaurants that are tied to Disney properties.

Sports lovers will have to find a new place to watch the rest of the NBA and NHL finals -- the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Walt Disney (DIS) is closing most of its ESPN Zone restaurants.

The only outlets that will stay open are the ones that are directly tied to a Disney property, like the one in the Downtown Disney shopping district in Anaheim, the paper reported.

"Since their inception, the Zones have served sports fans very well," an ESPN spokesman told the LA Times, but "from a pure business perspective, the economics have been challenging."

Maybe I am missing something. Does Disney own all ESPN Zone Restaurants? If so, then maybe they ARE keeping the ones at the theme parks! Whew!

This was discussed over on the DVC board and the word there is that the ESPN Restaurants ON WDW PROPERTY are remaining opened. Someone pointed out that the ESPN Zones have the very large arcades attached.

In any event regardless of what it's called I do hope everyone is correct and it'll be opened when I get to the Boardwalk in October!

I don't see where this is any different from what was already reported stating that most ESPN Zones would be closed, but not the ESPN restaurants affiliated with Disney properties, like DTD Anaheim (and presumably the Boardwalk at WDW).

The BW restaurant is an ESPN Club, not an ESPN Zone (there is a difference; the Zones are larger and have a whole arcade floor, at least the one here in DC does)

Disney owns ABC and ESPN, so yes, they own the restaurants.

Another post states the closing restaurants are in New York, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Chicago and Washington, DC.

Thanks for setting me straight. I guess I panicked when I thought about losing my hot wings. I feel much better now. Carry on!
