I was lucky enough to be attending Mousefest this past week. But I got one of those calls that no one wants to receive while on vacation - they found a tumor in my Mom's neck.
She had been having neck pain for the last few weeks and went to the doctor who of course ordered an MRI which showed that one of her vertebrae was fractured from a tumor. Upon further CT and bone scans it has been determined that her breast cancer from 25 years ago has metastized and she has lesions on her pelvis, spine and skull but only in her bones and not in any soft tissue. She started radiation today to shrink the neck tumor so her neck can be stabilized and will start some form of chemo in the next week.
Please keep my mother in your prayers and thoughts as she fights this battle. She is the backbone of our family and it has been a difficult past few days for my family.
Thankfully, I was amongst my DIS friends when I got the news and was distracted enough to not totally break down - well, most of the time at least.
I think I need another DATW and TSM dessert party to distract me though.
